140 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter
Your RadioShack 140 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter converts 12-volt
vehicle battery power into 115 volts of AC power. You can use your in-
verter in your vehicle to operate a TV, VCR, portable computer, lights
for emergency or campsite use, power tools, and many other devices.
The power inverter works with the vehicle engine turned on or off. It
provides a continuous output of up to 140 watts, and sustains a tempo-
rary output of 180 watts for about 5 minutes. It can "cold start" a load
up to 240 watts, and provides the 300 watts (1 cycle @ 60 Hz) of surge
start-up power required by most personal computer monitors and TVs.
CONNECTING POWER
1. Plug the power inverter's cigarette lighter plug into the vehicle's
cigarette lighter socket.
Cautions:
• The power inverter's cigarette-lighter plug might get hot while it
is plugged into a cigarette-lighter socket. Use a cloth or a glove
to unplug it from the socket, and let it cool completely before
you store it.
• The cigarette-lighter socket must be rated for at least 20 amps
in order to continuously power a 140 watt load.
• Using a dirty cigarette-lighter socket might prevent the inverter
from working properly. If you cannot turn on the power inverter,
unplug it from the cigarette-lighter socket, make sure the
socket and plug are clean, then reconnect it.
• Do not use the power inverter in a positively grounded vehicle.
2. Set the power inverter's switch to
cator lights.
3. Plug the desired device's AC plug into the power inverter's AC
outlet.
Note: If necessary, you can use an AC extension cord. The exten-
sion cord's rating should be equal to, or greater than, the current
rating (amps) of the device being powered.
4. Turn on your device's power as you normally would.
5. When you are not using the power inverter, flip its power switch to
(off).

Automatic Shut-off
Your inverter automatically shuts off under certain conditions. If your
inverter shuts off, follow the recommended solutions to restore opera-
tion.

then turn the power inverter's power switch off and

HEAT DISPERSION
When the power inverter's load increases, the inverter generates more
heat. Position the power inverter where air flows freely around it to al-
low the heat to disperse.
The power inverter's thermal protection prevents it from operating
when its temperature exceeds 158 F (70 C). Operation resumes
when the temperature decreases to about 104 F (40 C).
LOW BATTERY ALARM
When the power inverter's input voltage decreases to lower than about
11 volts DC, it sounds an alarm indicating the connected vehicle bat-
tery is weak. Stop operation immediately.
When the input voltage decreases to lower than about 10 volts DC, the
power inverter's output cuts off to prevent battery power drainage.
REPLACING THE FUSE
If the power inverter stops operating due to power overload or re-
versed polarity connection to power, the inverter's fuse blows. If this
happens, replace the fuse with the supplied 20A blade-type fuse.
1. Grasp the fuse (on the end of the power inverter, next to the
power cord) and pull it out. If the fuse is blown, replace it.
2. Install the extra fuse. The power inverter resumes operation.
Caution: Do not use a fuse with ratings other than those speci-
fied. Doing so might damage your inverter.
