Geartronic (option)

P – Park
Select this position when you wish to start the
engine or park the car.
In the gearbox is mechanically locked.
Always apply the parking brake when parking!
R – Reverse
The car should be stationary when you select !
N – Neutral
is the neutral position. The engine can be
started, but no gear is selected. Apply the
parking brake when the car is stationary with
the gear lever in .
D – Drive
is the normal driving position. The car
automatically shifts between the different gears
of the gearbox based on the level of acceleration
and speed. The car should be stationary when
selecting from position .
Gear selector manual position
To move from automatic position
shifting mode, move the lever to the left. To

3rd, 4th and 5th gears have the Lock-up
function (locked gears), which gives better
engine braking and lower fuel consumption.
While driving:
The manual gear positions can be selected at
any time while driving. The selected gear is
locked until another gear is selected. The car
only downshifts if you slow to a very low speed.
If you move the gear selector to minus (–), the
car shifts down one gear while braking the
engine. If you move the gear selector to plus
(+), the car shifts up one gear.
3rd is the highest gear you can use when starting.
The Kick-down function is not available while
you are in manual shifting mode. You must
return to automatic position .

Geartronic for the R version
(option)
The S60 R is equipped with an automatic
gearbox which has an S-button instead of a
W-button located near the gear selector.
Activate the gearbox sport program with the S
button; an LED in the button lights when the
program is active.
The S-program allows for sportier performance
and higher gear rpm as well as a more rapid
acceleration response. Use of a lower gear is
prioritised during active driving - which implies
delays during upshifts.
