    Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Charge the battery before use. Batteries The camera uses an NP-45 rechargeable battery. Place the battery in the charger. Insert the battery into the supplied battery charger as shown, making sure that the bat- tery is in the orientation indicated by the C B D label.

    Inserting the Battery After charging the battery, insert it in the camera as described below. Open the battery-chamber cover. Lightly press the center of the battery-chamber cover and open it as shown. 1 Note Be sure the camera is off before opening the bat- tery-chamber cover.

    g Intelligent Face Detection and Red-Eye Removal Intelligent Face Detection automatically detects human faces anywhere in the frame and sets focus and exposure for shots that emphasize portrait subjects. Choose to prevent the camera from focusing on the background when taking group portraits, or to remove “red-eye” caused by the fl ash. Turn Intelligent Face Detection on.

    N Using the Flash (Super-Intelligent Flash) When the fl ash is used, the camera’s Super-Intelligent Flash system instantly analyzes the scene based on such factors as the brightness of the subject, its position in the frame, and its distance from the camera.

    h Using the Self-Timer The camera off ers a “couple timer” for self-portraits taken with a friend, a “group timer” for group por- traits, a ten-second timer (pg. 27) that allows photographers to appear in their own photographs, and a two-second timer (pg. 27) that can be used to avoid blur caused by the camera moving when the shutter button is pressed.
