I see black spot inside on the louvers and more. My unit has a smell when turned on. How can I clean the inside to remove the black spots? Do I need a new unit?

To clean the inside of a Frigidaire THRU-THE-WALL ELECTRONIC CONTROL AIR CONDITIONER and remove black spots and odors:

1. Unplug the unit to prevent shock or fire hazards.
2. Remove the air filter by grasping it at the center and pulling up and out.
3. Clean the air filter:
- Wash it with warm water and liquid dishwashing detergent.
- Rinse thoroughly and shake off excess water.
- Let it dry completely before replacing.
- Alternatively, vacuum the filter clean.
4. Clean the cabinet and front panel:
- Use a cloth dampened with warm water and mild liquid detergent.
- Rinse and wipe dry.
- Do not use harsh cleaners, wax, or polish.
- Avoid excess water near the controls.

This process helps remove trapped particles that could cause odors and black spots, such as mold or mildew.
