Installation must be made by qualified service personnel, and must meet all local codes.
Your VCMute is equipped with Optimatch, a new concept in self-impedance matching controls. It can be used as a full
range volume control, or as an impedance matching volume control that can be adjusted to meet the requirements of your
installation. One simple adjustment can be made when the control is connected, and can be changed to accommodate
additions to the installation at any time. Every VCMute is factory set at the 4X position. The 4X position automatically
impedance matches 4 pairs of 8 ohm speakers to an 8 ohm amplifier. If using more than 4 pairs of speakers, please refer to
the Optimatch chart included in this manual to adjust the Opti Peg setting.
If you are using some other device such as a switcher or distribution hub to impedance match your system, the Optimatch
tab may be removed from the VCMute to achieve 12 steps of attenuation. First remove the knob and then using a 1/2" nut
driver, loosen the nut and remove the Opti Peg. Replace the nut, tighten and replace the knob.
Following the wiring diagram on the back of this page;
1.
Make connections by stripping the wire insulation back about 3/16". Twist any loose strands tightly.
2.
Insert the wires from the amplifier into the INPUT openings of the connector, hot to hot and ground to ground,
then tighten the screws. Check for any loose strands that might cause a short circuit. Make sure the metal part of
the screw connector engages the bare wire, NOT the insulation.
3.
Similarly, connect speaker wires to the control OUTPUT openings and tighten screws.
4.
Finally make the MUTE connections in the same way, connecting the power supply last.
5.
If using the impedance matching feature, make sure the factory setting of 4X is acceptable. If not, make the
appropriate change using the chart below.
7.
Install the control in its operating location.
In operation, the VCMute features a two-color LED that indicates the status of both your stereo system and the room you
are in. When someone turns on the stereo, all volume controls stay muted and light up their red LED 's, indicating that the
stereo is on. When you "un-mute" the room to listen, the LED will turn to green. When you turn of f the stereo, all rooms
automatically mute and all LED's turn off. A momentary push of the button turns on that location. Holding the button in for
5 seconds will turn on all locations (party mode). To reset all locations, power must be removed for 2 to 5 minutes.
INSTALLATION MANUAL
TECHNOLOGY
Tapped auto transformer.
12 position rotary, make-before-break contacts, low torque specifications for smooth feel.
Screw-tight type.
Complies with UL 1492 @ 72 Watts RMS continuous, 35 Hz-20KHz, 216 Watts audio.
Studies reveal that transformer core saturation @ 35 Hz is 72 Watts.
Tri-filar wound for flat response and minimum phase shift, grain oriented, -34 dB in 12 steps.
8 steps @ -3 dB each, 1 step @ -4 dB, 1 step @ -6 dB, last step OFF.
Fits most standard single-gang junction boxes.
Will match impedance for almost any situation. Mechanical index permits presetting load
impedance multiplication by X2, X4, X8, X16, which can be changed at any time.
Requires a 500ma, 12 vDC wall adapter.
