ENGINE
Petrol engines
Five-cylinder petrol engine, with or without turbo. Double overhead
camshafts, 20 valves. Continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) on the
inlet side (engines without turbo), exhaust side (engines with turbo) or both
the inlet and exhaust sides (Volvo S60 AWD). Electronic engine
management. Three-way catalytic converter with Lambda sensor. Engines
with turbo also with charge-air cooler (Intercooler).
Diesel engines
All-aluminium direct-injection common rail turbodiesel with five cylinders.
Double overhead camshafts, 20 valves. Variable turbocharger. Charge-air
cooler (Intercooler). Two-way catalytic converter with EGR. Electronic
engine management.
Bi-Fuel engines
Five-cylinder Bi-Fuel engine which runs on gas (methane or LPG) with
petrol as the reserve fuel. Double overhead camshafts, 20 valves.
Continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) on the inlet side. Three-way
catalytic converter with Lambda sensor. Electronic engine management.
DRIVELINE
Front-wheel drive (Volvo S60 AWD with an electronically-controlled all-
wheel drive system). Transverse engine. Five-speed manual all-synchromesh
gearbox. As an alternative there is a five-speed, electronically controlled
automatic transmission with adaptive shifting pattern, winter mode and a
lock-up function that reduces fuel consumption when cruising. The 210-bhp
and 250-bhp turbo engines are also available with five-speed Geartronic
adaptive automatic transmission, which allows manual shifts.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Multiplex digital electrical system with OBD (On Board Diagnosis). Battery
capacity 12 V, 520 A (Volvo S60 2.4D and D5 680 A). Alternator 120 A.
STEERING GEAR
Power assisted rack and pinion steering gear. Steplessly adjustable steering
wheel, vertically and horizontally. 2.8–3.0 turns between end stops
(depending on tyres). Turning circle 10.8–11.8 m (depending on tyres).
BRAKES
Power-assisted anti-locking disc brakes (ABS), ventilated at the front.
Electronic brake distribution between front and rear brakes (EBD). Diagonal
split brake system.
Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA) in combination with DSTC.
