Setting Up the Remote Commander
Betore you can start using the Commander, you must first set _t up
This manual describes e_ erythmg you need to know to set up the
Commander, including
• Instathng the batteries
•Presetttng the Commander wtth the codes for your TV, VCR attd

About Presetting the Commander
The Commander is preset at the factory to operate Sony brand TVs
and Sony brand VHS VCRs
If you're using the Commander with a Sony brand T'V and a Sony
brand VHS VCR, you won't need to preset the Commander before
you start using it
To set up the Commander to use w]th other (non-Sony)
manufacturers' components, or to use wtth a cable box, youql need

wtth the correct code number for your components

Notes
• The Commander can be set up to operate only one component per
button unless their code numbers happen to be the same [_or
example you cannot set up the Commander to operate a Sony TV and a
Panaso_xtc T",_ stttluItaileousl¥ (because the'_ use d[_fttt_nt code
numbers)

Be sure to line up the O and • on the batteries with the 0 and _ on
the battery compartment

When to replace the batteries
Under norma_ conditions, battexles wdl last up to six months If the
Commander does not operate properly, the battertes might be worn
out Replace the batteries with new ones
Notes
• Replace both batteries with new ones
• Do not take more than 2(_ minutes to replace the batteries otherwise,
your setting of the code numbers will be erased
Notes On Batteries
• Do not mtx old batteries wzth new ones or mix different types of
battertes together
• If the electrolyte mstde the battery should leak, wipe the
contaminated area of the battery compartment with a cloth and
replace the old batteries with new ones To pTe_,ent the electroly_e
from leaking, remove the batteries when you plan not to use the
Commander for a long period of time
Setting the Code
Follow the steps 1 and 2 below for each component you plan to use
with the Commander
Step 1: Entering the Code Number
1 See the tables in "Component Code numbers", and fred the code
number m double hgures for the deszred component
If more tkatt one code number ts h_ted, use the number that's
hated hrst to complete the steps below
For example, tf you're setting up a Phdtps' VCR, you would use
the code number 13
If your component tsn't Itsted, see "Searching for the Correct
Code "
2 Press and release the S (Set) button _1
