C. Reassembly
Before reassembling
the blade and the blade adapter
to the unit, lubricate the spindJe and the inner surface
of the blade
adapter
with light oli (or engine
oil).
Lubficatrng
the bolt holes, bolts and inner surface of
the nuts is also recommended
When replacing
blades,
be sure to instarl the blade
with the side of fhe blade marked "Bottom"
(or with
part number) facing the ground when the mower is in
the operating position.
Blade Mounting Torque
Center Bolt: 450 in. tb. ngm, 600 in. Ib max.
Blade Adapter
Bolts (if appl;cabJe):
200 in. lb. rain.,
359 in. Ib max.

BATTERY CAREAND MAINTENANCE
CHECK FLUID LEVEL
Check fluid level inside each cel of the battery every
two weeks
and before
and after charging.
Always
keep level just below the split rings.
Add only distilled
water. Never add additionei
acid
or any other chemicals
to 1he battery after in tial acti-
vation.
NOTE: Afler operating the lawn tractor for _ tong peri-
od of time, check the ttuid revel fn the battery as it can
overheat and lose fluid
CHARGING
THE BATTERY
The engne
is equipped
with
an aJtemator
which
charges battery when tractor is operated,
Under nor-
mal conditions,
the battery only needs to be charged
before,
during
and after off-season
storage.
Fellow
the instructions
under "Off-Season
Storage"
To charge
the battery:
Make certain
fluid lever in
each cell is just below the splil rings
Use a 12 volt
automotive
charger which is rated at E amps. Charge
the battery to 1.260 minimum specific gravity.
REMOVING/INSTALLING/JUMP
STARTING
WARNING:
When removing
or installing
the battery,
follow
these
instructions
to
prevent
the screwdriver
from
shorting
against
the frame.
Removing
the Battery;
D sconneet
negative
cable
first, then edsitfve cable.
Installlng
the Battery:
Connect
positive
cable first,
then negatrve cable.
Jump Starting
1 First, connect end of one jumper cable to the posl-
lye
lerminal
ol the good battery, then the other
end to the positive termlnal of the dead battery.
2. Connect
the other lumper
cable to the negative
terminal of the goad battery, then to the FRAME
OF THE UNIT WITH THE DEAD BATTERY,

WARNING:
Failure to use this procedure
could
cause
sparking,
and the gas in
either battery could explode.
CLEAN THE BATTERY
Clean the battery by removing it from the unit and
washing with a baking soda and water solution, If nec-
essary, scrape the bagery terminals with a wire brush
to remove deposits. Coat terminals and exposed wiring
with grease or petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion.
BAI-i'ERY
FAILURES
Some common
causes for battery failure are: incor-
rect initial activation,
lack of water, adding chemlcals
other than water after initial activation,
undercharging,
overcharging,
corroded
connections,
freezing.
These
failures
do not constitute
warranty.
TIRES
Recommended
operating
tire
pressure
is
approximately
12 p.s.i. Maximum
ttte pressure under
any circumstances
is 30 p.s.i.
Equal tire pressure
should be maintained on all tires
When
installing
a tire to the r=m, be certain
rim is
clean and free of rust Lubricate both the tire and rim
generously.
Never inflate
to over
30 p,s,i, to seat
beads
WARNING:
Excessive
pressure
(over 30
p.s.L)
when
seating
beads
may cause
tire/rim
assembly
to burst with force suf-
ficient
to cause serious
iniury.
BELTREMOVALAND REPLACEMENT
WARNING:
Disconnect
the spark
plug
wire
and ground
it against
the engine.
Block the wheels
of the unit.
NOTE:
Figures
17 and 19 are shown
with the unit
tipped up for clarity, g _s not necessary
to tip the unit
to remov6 fl_e belts,
However,
ff tipping
the unit ts desired,
remove
the
battery
from
the unit,
To prevent
gasoline
leakage,
drain the gasoline,
or remove
the fuel tank cap, place
a thin piece
of plastic
over
the neck
of the fuel tank
and
screw
on the cap.
Be certain
to remove
the
plastic
when
finished
changfng
the bolts.
Block
unit
securely,
