ARNING:Whenremovingthe cutting
bladefor sharpeningor replacement,
protectyourhandswith a pairof heavy
glovesor use a heavyrag to holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspect t he blade adapterfor cracks,
especiallyif you strikea foreignobject.Replacewhen
necessary.Followthe stepsbelowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplug wirefrom spark plug.Turn
moweron itssidemaking surethat theair filter and
the carburetorare up.
2. Removethe boltand the blade bell supportwhich
hold the bladeand the blade adapterto the engine
crankshaft.See Figure5-2.
3. Removebladeand adapterfrom the crankshaft.
4. The bladecan be sharpenedwith a file or on a
grindingwheel.Followthe originalangleand grind
eachcuttingedge equally.Donot attemptto sharpen
the bladewhile itisstill on the mower.
5. Placethe bladeon a roundshaftscrewdriver to check
for balance.Removemetalfrom the heavy sideuntilit
balancesevenly.

WARNING:An unbalanced blade will
cause excessivevibrationwhen rotating
at high speeds.It may causedamageto
mower, and couldbreak causingpersonalinjury.
6. To reassemble, l ubricatethe enginecrankshaftand
the innersurfaceof the bladeadapterwith lightoil.
Slide the bladeadapterontothe enginecrankshaft.
7. Placethe bladeon theadaptersuchthat the side
of the blade marked"Bottom"(or with part number)
facesgroundwhenthe mowerisin theoperating
position.Makesurethat the bladeisalignedand
seatedon bladeadapterflanges.
8. Placeblade bell supporton the blade.Align notches
on the blade bell supportwith small holesin blade.
9. Replacehexbolt and tightenhex boltto torque:450
in.Ibs.rain.,600 in.Ibs. max.
Toensuresafeoperationof your mower,periodically
checkthe bladebolt for correcttorque.

Off-Season Storage
The followingstepsshouldbe takento prepareyour lawn
mowerfor storage.
Cleanand lubricatemowerthoroughlyas describedin
the lubricationinstructions.
Referto engine manualfor correctengine storage
instructions.
Coatmower'scutting bladewith chassisgreaseto
preventrusting.
Storemowerin a dry, cleanarea. Do notstore nextto
corrosivematerials,such as fertilizer.
Whenstoringany type of powerequipmentin a poorly
ventilatedor metalstorageshed,careshouldbe taken to
rust-proofthe equipment.Usinga light oil or silicone,coat
the equipment,especiallycablesand all movingparts of
your lawnmowerbeforestorage.
