extension cord. The appliance plug

fully i nto ti_e e xtension cord, reverse
tileplug. Ifthe plug s tilt d oes n ot f it,
obtain acorrect polarized extension
cord. Apolarized extension cord witl
require theuse ofapoladzed watl out-
let. T his plug w ill f itinto the polarized
wall outlet onty o ne way. Ifplug d oes
not f itfully into the watl outlet, reverse
tileplug. Ifitstill d oes n ot f it,contact a
qualified electrician toinstall the prop-
erwall outlet. Do not c hange the
equipment plug, extension cord re-
ceptacle, orextension cord plug i n
any way.

extension cords specifically marked
assuitable foroutdoor appliances
having electdcat rating not t ess t han
the rating ofunit. Cord m ust be
marked with suffix " W-A" (in Canada
'M/"). Make s ure y our extension cord
isingood c ondition. Inspect extension
cord before use and replace ifdam-
aged. Do not u se adamaged cord.
Cord i nsulation must beintact with no
cracks ordeterioration. Plug c onnec-
tors must beundamaged. Anunder-
sized e xtension cord will c ause adrop
inline voltage resulting intoss o fpow-
erand overheating. Ifindoubt, use
the next heavier gauge. The lower the
gauge number, the heavier the cord
(see S ELECT AN EXTENSION CORD in
the OPERATION section).
• Do not u se multiple cords.
• Do not a buse c ord. Never carry t he
unit b ytileextension cord o ryank e x-
tension cord todisconnect unit.
• Use cord retainer toprevent discon-
nection ofextension cord from unit
and possible damage tothe unit d ue
toptug movement (see ATTACH THE
EXTENSION CORD TO YOUR TRIM-
MER i nthe OPERATION section).
• Do not u se the unit i fthe switch does
not t urn the unit o nand off p roperly.
Repairs tothe switch must bemade
byyour authorized service dealer.
• Keep t he extension cord clear o fop-
erator and obstacles atalltimes. Do
not e xpose cords toheat, oil, w ater,
orsharp e dges.
• To avoid t he possibility ofelectric
shock, avoid b ody c ontact with any
grounded conductor, such asmetal
fences orpipes.
• Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
(GFCl) protection should bepro-
vided o ncircuit oroutlet tobeused.
Receptacles are available having
built-in GFCl protection and may be
used f orthis measure ofsafety.
UNIT SAFETY
• Inspect unit before use. Replace
damaged parts. Make sure all han-
dles, guards, and fasteners are in
place and securely fastened. Parts
that are damaged must be repaired
or replaced by an authorized service
dealer These include head parts that
are cracked, or chipped, guards,
and any other part that is damaged.
• Do not repair unit yourself.
• Use only 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) di-
ameter recommended trimmer line
(see USER REPLACEABLE SERVICE
PARTS in the SERVICE AND ADJUST-
MENTS section). Never use wtie,
rope, string, etc.
• Use specified trimmer spool. Make
sure spool is properly installed and
all parts are securely fastened.
• When servicing unit, use only
Craftsman identical replacement parts
and accessories as recommended.
CUTTING SAFETY
_WARNING: Inspect areato be
cut. Remove objects (rocks, broken
glass, nails, wire, string, etc.) which
can be thrown or become entangled in
cutting head.
• Do not overreach or stand on unsta-
ble support. Keep firm footing and
balance.
• Keep the cutting head below waist
level. Do not raise handles above
your waist. Cutting head can come
dangerously close to your body.
• Keep away from cutting head and
spinning line.
• Use unit properly. Use only for trim-
ming, scalping, and mowing. Do
not force unit. It will do the job better
and with tess risk of injury at the rate
for which it was designed.
