Preparation 1 Insert the Batteries Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover. • Before opening the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover, hold the camera upside down to prevent the batteries from falling out. Insert the batteries. • Confirm that the positive (+) and negative (–) terminals are oriented correctly as described on the label at the entrance of the battery chamber, and insert the batteries.

Removing the Batteries • Turn the camera off and be sure that the power-on lamp and the monitor have turned off before opening the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover. • The camera, batteries, or memory card may be hot immediately after using the camera. Notes About Easy Auto Mode • Depending upon shooting conditions, the camera may not select the desired scene mode. Using Macro Mode When using macro mode, the camera can focus on objects as close as about 10 cm (4 in.) from the lens. This feature is useful when taking close-up pictures of flowers and other small subjects. Press the multi selector I (p macro mode). Press H or I to select ON and then press the Macro mode k button.

Notes About Using the Flash The flash may be unable to light the entire subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.). Autofocus When shooting still images in macro mode, the camera focuses continuously until the shutter- release button is pressed halfway to lock the focus.
