Select a Location for the Printer Select a location for the printer that is level and provides clearance for ventilation. To avoid print quality problems, choose a location that is protected from direct sunlight. Refer to the General Information section of the Phaser 7300 Color Printer Service Manual for information on physical specifications as well as clearance specifications.
The printer can either be placed directly on the 1650 Sheet High-Capacity Feeder, or with one 550 Sheet Feeder between the printer and the 1650 Sheet High-Capacity Feeder. Other combinations are not supported. Unpack and Install the 550 Sheet Feeder In this exercise, you will unpack and install the 550 Sheet Feeder.
Unpack and install the 550 Sheet Feeder. Unpack the Printer In this exercise, you will unpack the printer. When installing the printer directly onto a tabletop, make sure the surface is flat and level, and all four of the printer’s feet make contact with the tabletop. If the tabletop is not flat, the printer may be damaged.
Remove the Tape and Shipping Restraints In this exercise, you will remove the tape and shipping restraints. Please refer to steps 3 through 6 of the Phaser 7300 Color Printer Setup Poster to complete this exercise. Remove Tape Remove all of the packing tape from the printer. Tape is used to secure the Top Cover, the Left Side Output Tray, the Multi-Purpose Tray, Tray 1, and optional Duplex Unit during shipment.
Install Toner Cartridges In this exercise, you will install the four Toner Cartridges. Please refer to steps 8 through 10 of the Phaser 7300 Color Printer Setup Poster to complete this exercise. The printer ships with four standard capacity Toner Cartridges. Be sure to shake each cartridge to loosen the toner, which may become packed during shipment or storage.
When the Front Panel prompts for the Tray Media Type, use the arrow buttons to select “Tray x Media Type = Plain Paper”. To avoid damage to the Fuser, use only Xerox Phaser 35 Series Transparencies. PHASER 7300 SETUP WORKSHEET page 13 version 1.0...
Select Printer Defaults In this exercise, you will configure the printer defaults. The printer defaults selected depend on the network requirements and usage patterns of the end user. Print Menu Map To quickly locate parameters in the Front Panel menus, print a Menu Map: Select the Printable Pages menu, then press OK.
Windows 98. Be sure to install the printer driver for your computer’s operating system. If you are using an application that does not support PostScript, a PCL5C driver may be downloaded from the Xerox website. There are three ways to connect the printer to a computer: ■...
Page 20
Once the Installer detects the printer, it automatically installs the driver on the computer. Upon completion of the driver installation, two options are available. Information Forwarding allows the printer to periodically send information to Xerox ■ for use with PhaserSMART, such as firmware version, serial number, and page count.

Right-click on the Phaser 7300 icon, then click Properties. The printer's properties settings are organized in seven tabs: General, Details, Color Management, Setup, Output Options, TekColor, and Troubleshooting. Click the Setup tab to bring it forward. The picture of the printer depicts its configuration. When the printer is using a TCP/IP connection to an Ethernet network, any changes made to its configuration, such as the installation of additional RAM or a High-Capacity Feeder, are automatically detected by the printer driver.
Test Printer Options In this exercise, you will test the available printer options. The printer’s installable options can be tested by printing jobs that use the IDE Hard Drive, the Duplex Unit, and the 550 Sheet Feeders. Test IDE Hard Drive To test the IDE Hard Drive, send a Secure Print job.
The printer driver setting overrides the printer’s Front Panel default settings unless the Use Printer Front Panel Setting option is selected. The printer driver also provides advanced color corrections for advanced users. To access detailed descriptions of each color correction mode, click the Help button on the TekColor tab.

General Life Expectancy Xerox warrants that the Toner Cartridges will be free of defects for a period of 1 year. All other Customer Replaceable Consumables are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days from the date of installation, but not more than one (1) year from date of shipment.
Page 27
Remove and Replace Toner Cartridges In this exercise, you will remove and replace Toner Cartridges and clean the LED assembly lenses. To avoid damage to the Imaging Units that degrades print quality, do not expose them to light for more than 10 minutes. Refer to the Toner Cartridge instruction sheet on the Phaser 7300 Customer Support Training CD-ROM for Information on replacing Toner Cartridges.
Page 28
Troubleshooting Imaging Units For troubleshooting procedures related to the Imaging Units, refer to the troubleshooting chart and the print quality troubleshooting charts located at the end of this worksheet. The Error Messages and Codes section of the Phaser 7300 Color Printer Service Manual contains a comprehensive list of troubleshooting procedures for error messages that may appear on the Front Panel.

Transfer Unit The Transfer Unit serves two functions. The belt charges the paper to transport it past the Imaging Units. The Transfer Unit also presses the paper against the Imaging Units so that toner is transferred to the paper. A Front Panel message indicates when to replace the Transfer Unit. Troubleshooting the Transfer Unit For troubleshooting procedures related to the Transfer Unit, refer to the troubleshooting chart and the print quality troubleshooting charts located at the end of this worksheet.

When a new supply is installed into the printer, the count for that Customer Replaceable Consumable, or CRC, is reset to zero. After the new CRC is installed, the printer blows the CRC fuse. If a used consumable is installed, the printer detects the blown fuse. Because the fuse is already blown, the CRC count will not be reset to zero for the used supply.
Reset NVRAM The printer’s non-volatile memory (NVRAM) contains the Front Panel default settings and network default settings. This data may become corrupted, causing the printer to behave unexpectedly. As a last resort in the troubleshooting process, the NVRAM can be reset, which restores the printer to known conditions.
