CHAPTER 3
50
PageMaker Plug-in Pack Features
By default, the numbering uses the same font
attributes as the first character in the paragraph.
For example, if you italicize the first word, the
number and separator are also italicized in that
paragraph. You may want to edit the font
attributes of the entire list to ensure consistency.
(See "Changing the formatting of a bulleted or
numbered list" on page 47.)
Numbered lists cannot extend across cells (the
numbering will restart in each cell).
To change numbered list options:
Open the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
1
(See "Changing the formatting of a bulleted or
numbered list" on page 47.)
For Number Style, select Arabic, Uppercase
2
Roman, Lowercase Roman, Uppercase alphabetic,
or Lowercase alphabetic. These options are
identical to those in the Numbering and Sections
dialog box.
For Separator, select an item (such as Em Dash
3
or None) from the menu, or type any single
character (such as a closing parenthesis). The
Separator character appears to the right of the
number character.
4
For Start At, type the number (not a letter) to
appear at the beginning of the list. Changing this
number is useful when you want to start a new set
of numbers immediately following another set of
numbers, or when you want the numbered list to
continue after a nonnumbered paragraph.
Note: If you change the Start At number for a
paragraph, and then decide you want to make that
paragraph part of the list's automatic sequence,
change the Start At number of the affected paragraph
to 1.
Specify any other options, and then click OK.
5
Creating a paragraph style that includes
bullets or numbering
If you want to use the same kind of bullets or
numbering in several sections of your document,
you can save time by making the bullets or
numbering part of a paragraph style.
To create a paragraph style that includes bullets or
numbering:
Choose New Paragraph Style from the
1
Paragraph Styles palette menu.
On the left side of the New Paragraph Style
2
dialog box, click Bullets and Numbering (you may
need to scroll).
For List Type, select Bullets or Numbering.
3
Specify the bullet or numbering characteristics.
4
(See "Changing the formatting of a bulleted or
numbered list" on page 47.)
Use the Indents and Spacing section and the
5
Tabs section of the New Paragraph Style dialog box
to change the indent spacing. For example, to
create a hanging indent, type 2p for Left Indent
and -2p for First Line Indent.
