    SAS Connectors Features The sled’s SAS expander has four external mini-SAS connectors and four internal mini-SAS connectors. The external mini-SAS connectors support direct cable connection, an external mini-SAS x4 cable (SFF-8088) connects the compute sled’s HBA/RAID HBA to the SAS expander. The external mini- SAS A1, A2, B1, and B2 connectors connect to all 12 or 24 hard-drives.

    Expander Configuration Mode The C8000XD sled is equipped with a SAS expander to operate the hard- drives in single port, dual port, or expansion mode. Use mini-SAS x4 cable(s) to connect a compute sled to your C8000XD sled. The sled supports the following configuration modes. •...

The figure below shows a dual path connection from a dual-HBA compute sled connected to the storage sled’s external mini-SAS A1 and B1 connectors.
  • Page 18 • Expansion mode (non-zoning) In expansion mode, the storage sled SAS expander board supports 24 x 2.5 SSD hard-drives from a dual-cable connection. The figure below shows a dual path connection from a single-HBA/RAID compute sled connected to the storage sled’s external mini-SAS A1 and A2 connectors.
  • Page 19 • Expansion mode (zoning) In expansion mode with zoning configuration, the storage sled SAS expander board supports 24 x 2.5 SSD hard-drives from a dual-cable connection. The SAS connections are grouped into four zones (A1/Zone 0, A2/Zone1, B1/Zone2, B2/Zone3) and each zone allows the host/compute sled to access a group of hard-drives in the storage sled.

    • Some cables have a connector with locking tabs; if you are disconnecting this type of cable, press in on the locking tabs before you disconnect the cable. As you pull connectors apart, keep them evenly aligned to avoid bending any connector pins. Also, before you connect a cable, ensure that both connectors are correctly oriented and aligned.
