Using the baseboard management controller management utility
program
Use the baseboard management controller management utility program to remotely
manage and configure a server network. The following features are available from
the program:
v IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) Shell
v Serial over LAN Proxy
To download the utility program and create the baseboard management controller
management utility CD, go to http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/support/xseries/
index.html, select System x3455 from the Hardware list, and click Go. Click the
Download tab, and search for BMC software. The CD provides information about
installing and using the program.

Using the SMBridge management utility program

Use the Avocent SMBridge management utility program to remotely manage and
configure a network. The utility program provides the following remote management
capabilities:
v CLI (command-line interface) mode
If you are using a diskette, insert the SDR/FRU update diskette into the external
USB diskette drive.
Use this feature to remotely perform power-management and system
identification control functions over a LAN or serial port interface from a
command-line interface. Use this feature also to remotely view the event log.
Use this feature to remotely perform control and management functions over a
Serial over LAN network. Use this feature also to remotely view and change the
BIOS settings.
Use CLI mode to remotely perform power-management and system identification
control functions over a LAN or serial port interface from a command-line
interface. Use CLI mode also to remotely view the BMC system event log.
Use the following commands in CLI mode:
– identify
Control the system-locator LED on the front of the server.
– power
Turn the server on and off remotely.
– sel
Perform operations with the BMC system event log.
– sysinfo
Display general system information that is related to the server and the
baseboard management controller.
