DEAR OWNER, In buying a KUHN machine you have chosen wisely. Into it have gone years of thought, research and improvements. You will find, as have thousands of owners all over the world, that you have the best that engineering skill and actual field testing can produce. You have purchased a dependable machine, but only by proper care and operation can you expect to receive the performance and long service built into it.
SAFETY DECALS MODEL IDENTIFICATION PLATE The following safety pictorials have been placed on your machine in the areas indicated. They are intented for your personal safety and for the safety of the people working with you. The text shown on them gives their precise meaning. Keep the pictorials clean. Replace them when they are faded, in particular the signalling panel (9) situated on the end of the machine.

PRIMARY P.T.O. SHAFT to the 1000 rpm (min ) PTO stub 3) Never operate the PTO at too great an angle (X = +/- 30° maximum) (fig. 28A). These recommendations and adjustments must be respected to avoid damage or premature wear of the PTO.
SECONDARY P.T.O. SHAFT Before carrying out any operation such as maintenance or adjustment on the machine, stop the tractor engine, remove inition key and wait for rotating discs to stop. Before the machine is put into service and after a long period of non-use, check the function of the slip clutch to ensure it is not locked up.
WORKING POSITION Warning : Before putting the machine in the working position ensure that the pivoting front protector has been lowered and that all persons are well clear of the cutterbar pivoting area. To lift the machine in headland turn position, do not use the tractors lift linkage, only use the single acting cylinder located under the frame.
TRANSPORT POSITION Attention : Before pivoting the cutting head into the transport position, wait until the rotating discs have come to a complete stop and ensure that there is nobody in the cutting head pivoting area. Do not pivot the cutting head into transport position if the torque limiter has become very hot due to slippage.

OPERATING THE MULTIDISC MOWER Adjust machine to clear obstruc- tions and debris. Foreign objects and other debris can be deflected toward the operator and bystanders. Attention, before placing the cut- ting head into the working posi- tion, release the lock (1) and lower the protection cover (2) in work position (see arrows in photo 43).
MAINTENANCE Before carrying out any operation such as maintenance or adjustment on the machine, stop the tractor engine, remove ignition key and wait for rotating discs to stop before leaving the tractor. Any intervention (changing the knives, grease, lubrication etc ...) must be done with the machine in the transport position, except when greasing the secondary PTO transmission shaft.
BASIC ADJUSTMENTS : Before any intervention on the ma- chine, make sure to depressurise the circuit, then open a fitting to release any residual hydraulic pressure. 1) Drive (fig. 47) 2) Compensating cylinder (1) (fig. 48) 3) Transport/work cylinder (2) (fig. 48) 4) Transport stop (5) (fig.

1. INSPECTION OF KNIVES AND SECURING ELEMENTS Worn or damaged items must immediately be replaced with genuine KUHN parts as otherwise warranty will be withdrawn. A) KNIVES should be inspected systematically each time before the machine is operated. a) Damaged knives...
Page 38
B) SECURING ELEMENTS : To be inspected regularly ! 12 daNm / 90 ft.lbs a) The securing bolt must be replaced : b) The nuts must be replaced : For the correct operation of your machine, always use genuine spare parts. Regularly check all nuts and bolts for correct tightness, particularly those securing discs and blades.
2. KNIFE REPLACEMENT Torque locknut to 12 daNm / 90 ft.lbs. Important : Always replace securing elements (lock-nuts and bolts) when they have been removed 5 times. Caution : Always replace damaged knives, never straighten a bent knife. Never replace one knife only per disc, always replace both of them to avoid creating an out-of-balance force.
Page 40
3. DISCS REPLACEMENT Tighten bolts to a torque of 12 daNm (90 ft.lbs). Discs supplied through our spare parts department come with a 1 mm spacer (part no. 568 071 00) (fig. 54) attached to them. When installing a new disc check if the gap between the blades or their mounting bolts and the cutterbar protection shields is at least 1 mm.

Before any intervention on the machine (maintenance or adjustments), place the machine into the transport position, switch off the tractors motor, take the key out of the ignition and wait until all moving parts have come to a halt. GMD 802 GMD 902 NOTE IMPORTANT ! after the first 10 hours of use [SAE 80 W EP (GL4)].

CHECKING OIL IN THE CUTTERBAR (fig. 60 and 61) If in doubt as to the amount of oil contained in the cutterbar, do not add oil. Drain the oil com- pletely and refill with the prescribed quantity. Fig.60 NOTE : Attention : Make sure that the tractor engine is shut off, ignition key removed and PTO shaft disconnected before carrying out this operation.
