Laying out SMIL presentations

About the Layout tab
The Layout tab of the SMIL window lets you visually change the sizes and physical positions of items in a presen­
tation. You can also use the Media Inspector, the Align palette, and the Transform palette to resize, reposition, and
align items.

Use the Layout tab of the SMIL window to lay out a SMIL presentation.
A. Streaming animation item (SWF) B. Static image item used as a background C. Streaming video item D. Root-layout

To show or hide the grid or ruler
With the Layout tab of the SMIL window active, choose one of the following from the View menu:
Show Grid.
Show Rulers.
To turn snapping and guides on or off
With the Layout tab active, choose one of the following from the View menu:
Places an element at the nearest grid intersection when you release the mouse.
Snap To Grid
Shows you vertical and horizontal guidelines when the element you're dragging aligns with
Show Smart Guides
another element. Use this option to position your element in relation to another element.
To visually resize or reposition an item
To resize an item, drag the item's resize handle.
To move an item, drag the item in the root-layout region in the Layout tab of the SMIL window.
