HOW TO SERVICE NOVA CHUCKS
 
 
SAFETY WARNING
Safety glasses must be worn when dealing with snap rings on the
chucks. Snap rings can for fly off in any direction. Use caution and
wear safety glasses.
 Note: Remove jaws or any other accessories attached on the chucks
before disassembling the chucks. Wipe/blow off visible dust from the
chucks before disassembly.
Preparation:
Before starting the disassembly, lay a disposable thick towel or cloth on top of the
working area as the disassembly process can get messy. The towel will protect the
chuck body during this process.

Titan Chuck Disassembly
Step 1: Place Chuck Face Down
Place the chuck face down. The jaw slides can be at any position for this step.
Step 2: Remove Retaining Ring and Backing Plate
Use external snap ring pliers to remove the retaining ring, then remove the backing plate which will pop out.
Step 3: Remove Threaded Pins and Pinion Gears
Remove two threaded pins with a 3mm Allen key to release pinion gears. Push pinion gears out of the chuck body.
Step 4: Remove Scroll Ring Retaining Circlip
Locate and remove the second retaining circlip holding the scroll ring using external circlip pliers.
Step 5: Remove Scroll Ring
Slide the scroll ring out from the chuck body. Gentle force may be required if it is stuck.
Step 6: Remove Jaw Slide Stop Screws
Remove stop screws on two slideways using a small flat head screwdriver to free the jaw slides.
Step 7: Verify All Parts
Confirm all listed parts (Chuck Body, Backing plate, Scroll Ring, etc.) are present after disassembly.
Titan Chuck Cleaning
Step 1: Initial Wipe Down
Use a disposable cloth or towel to wipe off as much visible dirt as possible from each part.
Step 2: Apply Degreaser/Rust Remover
Apply a degreaser/rust remover (e.g., WD40) to remove built-up grime and leave on for at least two hours.
Step 3: Remove Rust and Grime with Brush
Use a wired brush to effectively remove stubborn rust and grime from the chuck components.
Step 4: Final Wipe and Dry
Wipe parts with a clean cloth/towel after brushing to ensure they are dry and free of sticky residue.
Titan Chuck Reassembly
Step 1: Apply Lubricant
Apply a generous amount of lubricant to contact surfaces, inner chuck body, jaw slide slots, and scroll ring teeth.
Step 2: Reinsert Jaw Slides
Reinsert jaw slides into their original slots, ensuring numbering counts clockwise from 1-4 when viewed from the front.
Step 3: Position Jaw Slides for Square
Flip chuck face down and position jaw slides to form a square in the center.
Step 4: Engage Scroll Ring
Slide scroll ring into chuck body and rotate until it engages jaw slides, indicated by a click or visible slide movement.
Step 5: Install Scroll Ring Circlip and Lubricate
Place the circlip back into its groove to secure the scroll ring. Apply lubricant to the geared side of the scroll ring.
Step 6: Reinstall Pinion Gear and Pin
Reinstall the pinion gear into the chuck body and secure its position with the threaded pin.
Step 7: Check Jaw Alignment and Insert Position Pins
Rotate scroll ring using chuck key to align jaw slides at the center. Screw position pins back in if alignment is correct.
Step 8: Install Backing Plate and Retaining Circlip
Install the backing plate onto the chuck and secure it by installing the retaining circlip to complete the reassembly.
