    28000-7-TEST General Information Page 1 28000-7-TEST General Information Introduction This manual provides the information required to install and configure the 28000-7-TEST test system components. Note: Refer to the 28000 Test Subsystem GUI Control Software, Programming Instructions manual for detailed description of the tests and how to run the tests using the 28000 Graphical User Interface (GUI).

    A Keysight 33509B waveform generator, shown in Figure 1, is used as the source of test sige - nals in the 28000-7-TEST test system. The 28000 test software controls the waveform genera- tor via an Ethernet or optional GPIB bus interface.

    28000-7-TEST General Information Page 3 The 28000 test system cable set connects to the test and monitor busses of the 28000 chassis. Supplied rack-mount hardware provides side-by-side mounting for the waveform generator and digital multimeter in a 19-inch rack. • CB-BNC-24 Coaxial BNC cable, 2 feet long, connects the Keysight 33509B waveform generator and the 28000 front-panel TEST BUS connector.

    28000-7-TEST General Information Page 4 Test System Monitor Cables for Multi-Chassis Tests Test system monitor cables for multi-chassis tests are 9-pin D-shell to 9-pin D-shell cables for daisy-chaining the 28000 monitor bus using the additional SYSTEM MONITOR connectors on the rear of the 28000 chassis.

Includes 1,000 pF 0.1% calibra- tion capacitor, Combo-D to (two) BNC adapter, and BNC shorting plugs. • 28316B-TEST-ADAPTER-A Supports FAT tests of IEPE mode operation of the 28316B or 28316C card. This adapter incorporates TEDS memory and a load capacitor and is used to emulate the long distance TEDS (LDTEDS) capability of 28316C cards.

    28000-7-TEST General Information Page 7 Output Buffer Module and RMS/DC Converter Tester Output buffer modules and RMS/DC converters are tested using the test fixture OUTPUT BUFFER/RMS/DC TESTER. Refer to the 28000 Test Subsystem GUI Control Software, Programming Instructions manual, Section 2.4, 28000 Output Module Tester, for setup and operation of the test fixture.

    Windows-based host computer. Multiple 28000 systems may be tested by daisy-chaining chassis together with one test system. For faster test times and GUI performance, it is recom- mended that a dedicated 28000-7-TEST system and control computer are provided per 28000 chassis.

    For a quick check of the equipment prior to a test run, Go/No-Go testing measures the system performance of the current programmed setup.     28000-7-TEST General Information Page 10 1.3.2 Factory Acceptance Tests The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), a full parametric test, is normally run at regular main- tenance intervals. All programmable settings of the channel are measured and compared to original factory specifications. The system operator can specify which channels are to be tested and which individual tests to perform.
  • Page 17 28000-7-TEST General Information Page 11 • Excitation The Excitation test checks the range and accuracy of the excitation circuit for supported cards. • Auto-Balance The Auto-Balance test checks both the zero suppress and auto-balance for range and accuracy for supported cards.

    28000-7-TEST General Information Page 12 • Amplifier Frequency Response The Amplifier Frequency Response test consists of two elements: a test of the amplifier high-frequency response (not related to the filter circuit) and a composite match test. The composite match test compares the performance of the channel under test to the perfor- mance of a designated reference channel.

Before installing the test system, refer to the System 28000 Operation and Maintenance Instructions manual to ensure that the 28000 system is correctly installed. Then, read this section to become familiar with the steps of the installation procedure.

    28000-7-TEST Site Preparation and Installation Page 14 Site Preparation This section summarizes the preparations that must be made before the test system components are installed. 2.2.1 Power Requirements Refer to the vendor documentation accompanying the Keysight 33509B function generator and the Keysight 3458A digital multimeter for full power requirements information.

    If the shipping container has been damaged in any way, have the carrier’s agent present when the equipment is unpacked. If the equipment is damaged, file a claim with the carrier and forward a copy to Precision Filters. Retain the shipping container and packing material for the carrier’s inspection or for reuse.

    Page 17 Control Interface Configuration The primary description of 28000-7-TEST control is based on the premise that the function generator is being controlled via Ethernet connection and the digital multimeter is being controlled via GPIB. This section describes the setup of these devices for Ethernet LAN and GPIB control, respectively.

    The Keysight 3458A DMM is normally controlled via a GPIB connection; the Keysight 33509B function generator has a GPIB interface available. Note: Precision Filters offers a USB-GPIB I/O adapter to provide GPIB capability to a PC controller. Use the following procedure to configure the instruments for operation with the 28000-7- TEST test system.

    Figure 9 illustrates settings made for a function generator. The Device Name field is set to FUNCGEN and the primary GPIB address is set to 8. After the device name is set to FUNCGEN, the 28000-7-TEST test software automatically addresses the 33509B function generator under program control.
