Flipper Fidelity FF‐SPK2‐10/3/5‐LE Speaker Installation
Thank you for purchasing the Flipper Fidelity speaker kit for a Stern Pinball machine. This system fill fit Spike 2 Pro and Premium
machines with color LCD displays.
Your kit includes the following:
(1) 10" 3‐way Speaker with Wood Spacer
(2) 5" Speakers with Foam Spacers
(2) Metal Speaker Plates
(2) Red Acrylic Rings
(1) Spike 2 Wiring Harness for use with color display
(4) 1" Hex Head #8 screws for mounting of the woofer
(8) Nylock Nuts
(2) Insulated crimp on spade connectors
(1) Roll of Anti Rattle Tape
Please make sure all parts are present before starting your
installation.
Tools required for kit installation:
1/4" nut driver
5/16" nut driver
Wire terminal crimping tool w/ wire cutter
Note: Use of a drill driver or powered screwdriver is not recommended. Avoid over‐tightening. The fasteners used by Stern, and
those included in this kit, need only be tightened enough to hold the component in place and prevent vibration when in use.
Please allow approximately 30 minutes to install. This kit requires no permanent modification to the machine. You may want to take
photos of your particular machine in the event you wish to accurately restore it to its' original configuration.
Step One – Machine Preparation.
Make sure you have adequate space available to access the front and both sides of the machine. Make sure the machine is turned
off and unplugged from its' power source. To install this kit you will need to remove the translite to access the back box speakers
and their wiring. Woofer installation requires access to the inside of the base cabinet. If you are not familiar with the procedures to
access these areas, i.e. removal of the translite, removal of the playfield glass, and raising the playfield to the service position; please
refer to the Stern owners' manual
Step Two – Remove the back‐box speakers.
First, remove the translite. For safety, I would find a towel to drape across the machine at the top of the glass just in case you drop
something. The speaker/display panel is hinged with stain relief cables. When in the full lowered position is will not hit the glass,

even with the key left in the lock.
Remove both lock nuts on each speaker
and place them in a safe place. You will be
reusing this to secure the new speakers.

- Page 2 Locate the speaker connector circled in the photo to the left. This needs to be disconnected and removed with the speakers. We will install a new harness after the new speakers are mounted. Speakers and all speaker wiring removed. It comes out of the game in one piece. Step Three – Remove the speaker mounting plates and install replacement units. There are 4 Nylock nuts (I know, the picture is of them already removed) and two Phillips screws holding the factory speaker plates in place. Remove them all and the panel will lift out of place. Drop the new one in the in and secure it using the same screws and nuts. ...
- Page 3 Once the new mounting plate is secured. Drop the foam spacer over the four mounting posts and the speaker over that. Reuse the two nylock nuts holding the original speaker in place. There are two nuts in the hardware pack for the other two posts. Once completed, repeat on the other side. ...
- Page 4 Step Six – Installing the woofer spacer / adaptor. Test fit the woofer spacer, looking for interference with the bundle of wires crossing the base cabinet just in front of the large power transformer. It may be necessary to remove or relocate the nylon cable strap to gain clearance (see photos). Some of the wires may not have enough slack to clear the spacer. In that case, remove those wires from the bundle and re‐route them along the wood stringer at the back of the cash drawer. Once you have resolved any clearance issues, fasten the spacer in place with the nuts saved from the removal of the original woofer. Step Seven – Installing the new woofer. Your new woofer mounts to the spacer ring with the four #8 screws. I like to have the x‐over to the left of the speaker as shown below. Crimp the female spade terminals onto the existing speaker wire. Your new woofer mounts to the spacer ring with the four #8 screws. Crimp the female spade terminals onto the existing speaker wire. The wire with the white stripe connects to the small terminal on the speaker. The wire with the black stripe connects to the larger terminal. ...

Adjust the following: Go into the service menu: Utilities: VOL: Adjust Speaker Balance = 0 Select Back Box Speaker Type = 8 Ohm Select Back Box Bass Frequency = 250 Hz Adjust Back Box Bass Gain = 0 db Select Back Box Treble Frequency = Disabled Adjust Back Box Trebel Gain = 0 db Select Cabinet Speaker Type = 8 Ohm Select Cabinet Bass Frequency = Disabled or Fullrange.
