2013 to 2025 T9.9 Yamaha Tiller Kickers
READ ALL directions before you start the install. You will
need basic wiring skills and a few tools for the job.
Install Steps:
1:
Mount the Fantom Fail safe box near the stern of the boat.
2:
Mount the waterproof GPS Antenna included in your kit on top of the engine
(under the hood) with double sided tape supplied or a dab of silicone. Pic
below may look a bit different than your engine.

  • Page 2 Locate the main wire harness (pic below) with the 12 pin grey connector that was included in your kit. DO NOT HOOK UP THE HARNESS TO THE Fail- Safe BOX UNTIL ALL WIRING IS COMPLETED. Fantom 12 4: Important: The red power wire on the main harness must be hooked to an on/off switch.
  • Page 3 locate the tilt switch that came in your kit, this will get mounted on the Blue kicker engine, remove the hood of the kicker engine and install the Bracket onto the kicker and install tilt switch onto the blue bracket provided in your kit see picture below, remove cowling bolt and bolt down tilt switch bracket then install tilt switch onto bracket.

  • Page 5 Engine Ground Connect yellow wire from Fantom Harness to this white wire from the factory tether Blue wire from Fantom Harness (The alarm may already be connected and hid behind the mesh on the harness) Locate the alarm (buzzer siren) that was included in your kit.
  • Page 6 Important: MAKE SURE you are hooked to the blue wire going to the trim relay and not directly to the trim motor!!! Once you have these wires all connected verify the trim switch on tiller handle still works properly and the motor will trim up and down properly. If it does not work properly go back and check connections on the blue wire.
  • Page 7 VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING!!!!!!! Before you operate the kicker engine after the installation, make sure your safety tether is working properly. The quickest way to verify its working is to start the kicker and pull the safety lanyard off. The installation should not impair the ability of your tether to operate properly! It is your responsibility to verify the safety tether is operational after you install the Fantom Fail Safe.
  • Page 8 VERY IMPORTANT WARNINGS: A: Always verify your tether is working properly before operating your engine. B: When not in use on the water always shut off the power switch to the Fantom Fail safe box, the system will draw a very low amount power if it is not powered down from your starting battery.
