Getting Started Dust and Water Protection The KG-705F is waterproof to IP55 standards. It is dust resistant and rated to with- stand water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction for a limited period. This radio is resistant to dust and water only while the battery is proper- ly installed and locked in place with no gaps and the accessory port is completely sealed with the accessory port cover.
Getting Started The Battery Installing the Battery To install the Lithium-ion battery pack: 1. Be sure the radio is off. 2. Place the battery pack on the back of the radio and slide it up until it snaps in place at the top.
Getting Started The Antenna The KG-705F antenna is permanently attached to comply with FCC rules. Any at- tempt to remove it may damage your radio and will void your warranty. Warning: To avoid injury, DO NOT attempt to operate your radio if the antenna is damaged or defective.
KG-705F automatically grants you a license to use it in the United States. The KG-705F was designed to allow you to take advantage of all that FRS has to offer and more. Right out of the box this radio is configured to allow you to transmit on the 22 FRS simplex channels.
Your First Transmit Selecting a Channel When you power on your KG-705F for the first time, the display will likely show “01” in the center, surrounded by several icons. “01” is the number of the currently selected channel. Turn the Channel Knob to the left or right to navigate through the list of channels.
Most rules for FRS are the same for all channels, but there are a few differences, par- ticularly concerning output power. The FRS channels on the KG-705F consist of 2 groups, with the following differences: ▪...

Operation (CTCSS or DCS) code. The CTCSS and DCS functions are assigned to the [PF1] key by default. To enter a tone or code on a channel, short press the [PF1] key for CTCSS or long press for DCS and turn the channel knob to select the number for the specific tone or code that you want.
Operation Channel Scan The KG-705F has a channel scan feature, which is assigned to a short press of the [PF2] key by default. To activate Channel Scan, press the [PF2] key until you hear “Scan Begin”. The radio will scan each channel for activity, starting from the current channel.
Priority Channel Scan can only be set and activated through programming software. Scan Mode The KG-705F has three scan mode settings as described below. TO: When a signal is detected, scanning stops. Scan will pause to wait for further activ- ity and will then resume if no operation is carried out within 5 seconds.
VOX automatically activates transmission when the radio detects a voice or other noise. The KG-705F has 10 VOX levels of sensitivity to detect sound, from 1 (most sensitive) to 10 (least sensitive). The higher the level, the louder the sound needed to activate VOX.
When the transmission time exceeds the time set by the Transmit Overtime Timer, the unit will emit an error prompt and stop transmitting. The KG-705F is set to time out the transmission after 60 seconds. It can be disabled or adjusted from 15 seconds to 900 seconds in 15 second increments through the programming software.

Operation Display Backlight The KG-705F allows you to activate and deactivate the backlight for the display using a programmable key. When activated, the backlight will remain on for the duration of the time set in the programming software. It can be assigned to the [PF1], [PF2], [PF3] or [TOP] key through the programming software.

Flashlight The KG-705F has a built-in LED flashlight at the top of the radio. It is assigned to a short press of the [TOP] by default, but can be disabled or otherwise assigned to the [PF1], [PF2], [PF3] or [TOP] key using the programming software.

Operation Operation Call The KG-705F allows you to send the Call code set in the CALL-ID feature. It can be assigned to the [PF1], [PF2], [PF3] or [TOP] key using the programming software. Monitor The MONITOR function opens squelch on the current channel. This is useful when listening for weak transmissions.

To select a channel, turn the channel knob to choose a channel on the KG-705F that will either be replaced or copied with the detected frequency. If you don’t want to overwrite an existing channel, select an empty channel above the first 22 FRS channels that are already pre-programmed into the radio.
