Operation

The quartz sand used in the filter system's tank provides long-lasting filtration of dirt particles and floating debris. Dirty water is drawn from the pool via the suction pipe through the filter pump and then fed directly from above through the 7-way valve into the filter tank. As the water flows through the quartz sand in the filter tank, dirt particles are deposited in the sand and thus filtered out of the pool water. The purified water flows through the 7-way valve back into the pool via the return pipe.
For the operation of the filter system, you need a skimmer (surface skimmer). Either an integrated skimmer (built into the pool wall) or a suspended skimmer (attachment to the poolwall).

Filter sand requirements

  • Only quartz sand can be used with this filter system. The quartz sand must comply with the DIN 12904 quality standard.

Positioning

The installation area you set between the skimmer and the inlet nozzle so, that there is an adequate safety margin to the pelvic wall. We recommend putting the filter system in addition on base plates (for example: washed concrete slabs etc.). These have to be installed with the spirit level. Under no circumstances you may put your filter system in a trough or directly into the grass (flood danger or risk of overheating of the filter pump).

If you have sunk your pool partially or completely, so it makes sense to place the filter pump in a filter slot, which should connect directly to the pelvis. Is your filter pump housed in a filter slot, so it has to be insured, that the filter slot can't be slooded. For this purpose you should bring in a roller-burnishing (crushed rock) in the range of the filter slot, so that the surrounding- and rainwater can seep away. It would be ideal if there is a direct connection to the drain in the sump of the filter shaft (or sludge pump, with automatic floating switch). It is important to ensure that the filter slot should never be airtight, because this may cause damage, due to condensation water, on the filter pump. The size of the filter shaft should be selected so that work can be performed on the filter system.

Installation

Assembly of the filter system
Assembly of the filter system (Illustration 1)
Assemble the filter system at the location where the pump finally will be (the subsequent transport there would be too burdensome!). The filter pump consists of the following parts:

  1. Pump
  2. Valve
  3. Seal (O-Ring)
  4. Clamping ring
  5. Vessel
  6. Central pipe
  7. Filter screen
  8. Drain plug
  9. Centralizer (cover for standpipe)
  10. Base plate
  11. Pressure hose

Filter vessel

  1. Insert stand pipe including filter screen into boiler. (Illustration 2)
  2. Place the stand pipe with the filter screen on the floor of the boiler, make sure that the stand pipe is located in the middle of the boiler and that the drain plug is screwed in.
  3. Now put the centralizer on the tank opening, while centering the standpipe. (Illustration 4)
Filter vessel Installation - Step 1
  4. Fill in the filter quarz sand up to a high of about ¾ of the bowlhight. (Illustration 4)
  5. Then mount the top of the boiler or the valve head and the boiler seal on the tank top of the filter vessel. Before you do this, it is neccassary to clean again and wash off any sand or accumulated debris. The connection of the top of the boiler or the head valve with the filter vessel is carried out by the clamping ring. The clamping ring is screwed with the clamping ring screw and the collet nut. (Illustration 5 & 6)
Filter vessel Installation - Step 2
  6. Finally, mount the pump fittings on the valve head. Seal the pump fittings sufficiently by using teflon tape.
  7. The pressure gauge (if included) is screwed to the side of the 7-way valve and sealed. The existing vent plug should be removed first. (Illustration 9)
Filter vessel Installation - Step 3

Hose connections

Hose connections
See Illustration 7

  1. Skimmer pipe: Connection from the skimmer connection to the front connection on the filter pump.
  2. Pressure pipe: Connection from the top connection of the filter pump to the connection labelled "RINSE" / "FILTER" on the 7-way valve.
  3. Return pipe: Connection from the connection on the 7-way valve labelled "RECIRCULATE" to the connection on the inlet nozzle (pool). Fix all the connections with hose clamps.
  4. Backflush pipe: Connection "FILTER" / "WASTE" (emptying) into the channel. The connections are to be made with special swimming pool hoses and hose clamps!

Installation instructions

Once the filter system has been properly assembled, the sand chamber filled with sand and the hoses connected as described above, you may begin with filtration. However, we recommend that you clean and prepare the new sand that is in the sand chamber first. Cleaning the sand prior to filtering your pool will remove most of the dust and tiny sand particles that may exist in the sand. If you move straight to filtering, these particles will end up in your pool. To clean the sand, please follow the instructions below:

Do not plug the system in until advised to do so below.

  • Make certain the pump is not plugged in to a power supply.
  • Ensure that the valve lever is in the "closed" position.
  • Before operating the filter system, it is important to ensure that the filter system is positioned outside the pool and is lower than the pool's water level. The hose connections must also be correctly connected and fastened.
  • If you haven't done so already, fill your pool with water. Ensure that the water level is at least 2,5 – 5 cm above the top of the hose intake (Skimmer) and return ports in the pool.
  • Release the shut off valve at the intake port (Skimmer) in the pool. If you plugged the intake port (Skimmer), remove the plug to allow the water to flow into the intake hose.
  • With the filter-pump system installed in a location level lower than your pool's water level – water will automatically flow into the pump-filter system.
  • The filter system is now vented. If applicable, ensure that the filter pump's pre-filter guard is slightly open until the water runs from the pre-filter container (transparent lid with screw fitting on the upper surface of the filter pump).
  • Allow the filter tank to fill with water.
  • Check the filter system and the connection hoses for leaks and resolve, if necessary. Leakage points may possibly arise due to manufacturing tolerances, which need to be resolved by wrapping teflon tape around the connections before the connection hose is attached.
  • Follow the backwash process described below.

Backwash Process

  • S Disconnect the Motor/Pump from the Power Source.
  • Attach backwash hose (not included) to backwash port.
  • Place the Multi-Port Valve in the "Backwash" position.
  • Reconnect to power source.
  • Run filter in BACKWASH mode until discharge water is clear.
  • Disconnect the Motor/Pump from the Power Source.
  • Place the Multi-Port Valve in the "RINSE" position.
  • Reconnect to power source.
  • Allow filter to run for 60 seconds to remove any remaining residue from pump and valve.
  • Disconnect the Motor/Pump from the Power Source.
  • Place the Multi-Port Valve in the "Filtration" position.
  • Reconnect to power source.
  • Your filtration system is RUNNING and ready for further operation.

Filter operations

Setting Complete water flow/function
Filters Function: Vacuum, regular pool filter action. This is the setting the filter will be set to most of the time. In this position, water is directed through the top of the filter where it compresses and flattens down the sand. Contaminants are trapped by the sand as water makes it way to the bottom strainer, out of the filter and back to the pool.
Rinse Function: Use after backwashing to clean the filter bed. This should always be done immediately after backwashing, new sand addition or filter start-up. The water is channelled into the upper part of the filter container in this position, and the valve is rinsed whilst the water runs off via the waste pipe.
Circulation Function: circulate water after chemical treatment. This position is used during certain pool cleanups and chemical treatments when you don't want the water contaminating the sand. In this position, water is only directed through the valve back to the pool and does not filter through the sand.
Backwash Function: clean filter of captured debris. This is the position needed to clean the filter/the sand. You'll know it is time to backwash when the pressure gauge rises 0,3 to 0,6 bar above what it normally reads when the filter is clean.
In this position, the water is fed in at the bottom soil filter and it then runs upwards through the sand. The collected dirt is loosened, sucked up and flows through the dirt pipe out of the filter.
Closed

Function: Cleaning the hair and lint strainer. This position stops the flow of water into the pump and filter.

Do not run pump with valve in this position.

Purge/ Drain Function: bypass the filter. This position is ideal for vacuuming pools with large amounts of debris or after an algae treatment. In this position, water bypasses the filter and sends all the water and contaminates out the waste line.
Winterize

Function: winterizing and storage. In this position, the valve lever is between positions which removes pressure from internal valve components for winter (off-season) storage.

Do not run pump with valve in this position.

Filtering time

The swimming pool's water should be circulated and filtered at least 3 to 5 times in a 24 hour period, depending on the load and the size of the filter system. The time required is based on the performance of the filter system and the size of the swimming pool. However, we recommend a minimum running time of 12 hours per day.

Power source Instructions

The filter system you have purchased is equipped with a connection cable, which may only be connected to a circuit with a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) with a rated residual current of no more than 30mA.

Operation with a pool vacuum cleaner

Operation with a pool vacuum cleaner
(Illustration 8)

  • The pool vacuum cleaner's hose can be connected directly to the filter system's suction pipe. In doing so, the pool vacuum cleaner's hose must be completely filled with water.
  • The use of a skimmer with a strainer basket is recommended for filter systems without pre-filters.
  • Please observe the pool vacuum cleaner's operating instructions. To prevent the filter from running dry and thus overheating, no air should be allowed to enter the filter system.
  • Please select the "FILTERN" position on the valve head.
  • Alternatively, you can also select the "ENTLEEREN (empty)" position, for example if algae forms in the pool. Dirty pool water will not then run back into the pool, but will be directly channelled away via the waste pipe. When selecting this setting, it is necessary to re-fill your pool to the correct level after cleaning, if necessary.
