Internal sensors in COMPASS Pro can automatically detect emergency events such as falls, impacts, and arc flashes. COMPASS Pro also has SOS capability and can detect and add no-movement information to emergency events.
High: 34kVAC - 500kVAC Detection Voltage Ranges Detection distances vary depending on conditions and settings. The range is selectable in the Safeguard Equipment app. Eleven sensitivity levels + Smart Adaptive mode + Alert Disable Detection Sensitivity Point source: Approximately ±20°...
Charge Compass Pro Before using COMPASS Pro ensure the device is fully charged. Open the USB port cover and connect the cable provided. If the device is off it will power up automatically when connected to a power source. If it does not power up right away, please wait for it to charge.
Mobile App Installation & Setup To be able to take advantage of all the available features of your COMPASS Pro connect it to the Safeguard Equipment mobile App. The Safeguard Equipment Mobile App is free for download from the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).
Bluetooth Connection In the App tap the COMPASS Pro tab. The following orange screen will display. Ensure your COMPASS Pro is powered on and held near your phone to pair. Bluetooth pairing should occur within several seconds. The COMPASS Pro will display sweeping green LED’s to indicate pairing.
Next the screen will change to one with several tabs (Voltage, Current, Tools). The COMPASS Pro battery level is also shown at the top of the screen. An Alert Level line is displayed on each tab, this is the threshold the COMPASS Pro will begin alerting at for that detection method (voltage or current).
If the firmware version is outdated, an option will be available here to update it. Voltage Range COMPASS Pro has three (3) selectable voltage ranges for maximum versatility. Each range is tailored to work well around a certain span of source voltages. See the detection distances section for more detail.
All automatically created emergency events start a 30 second countdown. When the countdown expires the emergency event is created and the user's emergency contacts are notified. The countdown can be expedited via the CONFIRM slider in the app, or by holding the COMPASS Pro SOS button.
Falls A fall event is generated if the COMPASS Pro device experiences a 6ft (1.8m) fall. The event triggers a countdown before the emergency event is shared with your response team. This event type can be enabled/disabled in the mobile app service settings.
Compass SOS Button Countdown Sound If this option is disabled (as shown) COMPASS Pro will not make a countdown sound as you are holding the SOS button (3 seconds). This turns the SOS button feature into something that can be triggered discreetly.
If you have a service subscription, there are settings here to join or change the organization you are part of and adjust additional location sharing permissions for emergency events. Compass Pro User Guide – March 26, 2025 Page 14 of 29...
In-organization contacts with the subscription service receive more sophisticated emergency event information via App push notifications and additional SMS messages. External contacts only receive SMS messages. Compass Pro User Guide – March 26, 2025 Page 15 of 29...
• SMS text containing event details and user’s location. • If you are using a Compass Pro the device will flash corner lights ORANGE/WHITE three times with an accompanying tone. The Compass Pro heartbeat is replaced with ORANGE/WHITE flashing until you check the emergency response chat.
When COMPASS Pro is muted and, in a voltage, or current field above the alert threshold, the user will get periodic fading corner lights (no audible alert) of the appropriate color: RED for voltage, BLUE for current.
White = no or partial connectivity Emergency Event Behavior When a COMPASS Pro user receives an emergency notification generated by someone else the device will flash the corners ORANGE and WHITE three times with an accompanying sound to notify the user. After this, the regular heartbeat will be replaced with a silent WHITE/ORANGE emergency pulse animation until the user checks the Mobile App emergency response chat.
Blue = Current Alerts Directional Voltage Alerts If COMPASS Pro detects a voltage source originating off to the side of the device, it will generate a directional alert to indicate the direction to the voltage source. This is shown with sweeping RED LEDs.
Distances are measured using a 4ft x 2in diameter busbar elevated 2.5 feet above ground, in an outdoor setting (26°C and 35% RH) by a tester walking with a COMPASS Pro device mounted on a full- brim hard hat as shown below.

Note: Cells marked with “X” represent “DO NOT USE” as the alert distance is too short or non-existent. Distances are measured using a cable carrying current 2.5 feet above ground with a COMPASS Pro device held level with the conductor to represent the direct distance between the COMPASS Pro device and the conductor.
Smart Adaptive Mode is designed for users working in an environment where electric and magnetic fields are known to be present. When in this mode COMPASS Pro will adapt to the local ambient fields and pause alerts while the user is working within a small area, reducing nuisance alerts.
Device Mounting/Positioning Hard Hat Mounting COMPASS Pro is designed to be worn on the brim of a hard hat, directly in front of the user’s face. Ensure the unit is within the user’s peripheral vision to maximize effectiveness. For hardhats that do not have a traditional brim we offer the below adapters.
Collapsible Handheld Adapter. For the best results, set the sensitivity to high. When using COMPASS Pro in handheld mode, do not obstruct the front of the device, as this can significantly reduce its detection capabilities. Refer to the photos and illustrations for details on the proper holding technique.
If COMPASS Pro displays an error as shown above, try to resolve it by: Try charging on any USB power source for at least 90 minutes. Turn the device off and back on by holding the MAIN button. When powering on, COMPASS Pro will try to recover from the failure.
4. Tap “Update”. Ensure the phone stays on with the app open for the duration of the update. 5. If your COMPASS Pro does not pair/connect try connecting to a USB charger and allow to charge for 15 minutes before trying again.
• Some materials may shield electromagnetic fields from the detection circuits of COMPASS Pro. • COMPASS Pro is intended to be used as a secondary voltage detection method only. • Warning distances can vary due to a live conductor’s exposed surface area, elevation above ground, and proximity to other grounded conductive objects.
