The VITC input comes from a video "loopthru" on the TCI-50 The TCI-50 fits between a controller, such as a PC or edit controller, and an RS422 controlled device, such as a VCR or video disk player, and allows them to operate together using SMPTE time code as the means of indexing and control.
Depending upon the playback capabilities of the VCR, the TCI-50 can read and decode LTC signals at speeds as slow as 1/30th times play speed up to speeds as high as 100 times play speed.
At the controlled device, remove the DB9 cable coming from the controller and connect it to the CONTROLLER DB9 connector on the TCI-50. Connect the 6' DB9 cable supplied with the TCI-50 to the controlled device and to the DEVICE DB9 connector on the TCI-50.
VITC reading. The TCI-50 reads VITC in both forward and reverse directions from pause on up to fast search. There is no VITC line number selection for the TCI-50. The TCI-50 reads the first line of VITC that it detects in the vertical interval.
1. Check all cables for opens or shorts. 2. If using an AC power adapter different from the one supplied with the TCI-50, make sure it supplies the TCI-50 with at least 9 volts (maximum of 14 volts) when the TCI-50 is switched on.
< 1/5 VITC Figure 6-1, <1/5 VITC Jumper Location When automatic reader mode is selected (i.e., SELECT switch in AUTO position), the "<1/5 VITC" internal jumper further defines the switching behavior between LTC and VITC. With a shunt installed between pins 3 and 4, the automatic backup of the LTC reader by the VITC reader is restricted to tape speeds below 1/5th times play speed.
