How to use binoculars

Inserting the batteries

1. Open the battery-chamber cover. Hook your finger on the circled part and lift up.
   
2. Insert two AA-size batteries. Follow the battery insertion mark inside the battery chamber to insert the + and - ends of the batteries in the correct orientation as shown in the illustration on the right.
   
3. Attach the battery-chamber cover. Insert the tab of the battery-chamber cover into the body (①), and push it in until it clicks into place (②).
   

Turning the power on

1. Press the Power-On/Off button.
   The STABILIZED function activates.
   The LED lights up or flashes depending on the remaining amount of power in the batteries.
   * This product has an automatic power-off function. Approximately 60 minutes after the power has been turned on, the power turns off.
   
2. Check the remaining amount of power in the batteries with the LED indicator.
   Replace the batteries if necessary.

About the eyecups

The eyecup position can be adjusted to four levels.

Extend: Turn the eyecup in the ▲ (counterclockwise) direction.
Retract: Turn the eyecup in the ▼ (clockwise) direction.

• For eyeglass wearers, use fully retracted. To accurately adjust your view, you can also use either of the two click stops before reaching the fully retracted position.
• For non-eyeglass wearers, use fully extended. To accurately adjust your eye position, you can also use either of the two click stops before reaching the fully extended position.

Adjusting the interpupillary distance

Look into the eyepieces, and open and close the body as shown by the arrows to adjust the field of view into a single circle.

Focusing (diopter adjustment)

Correct the difference between the left and right eyesight.
These binoculars are the center-focused (CF) type.

1. Turn the focusing ring in the center of the Ro body, and focus when viewing with your left eye.
   
2. Turn the diopter adjustment ring on the right lens barrel, and focus when viewing with your right eye.
   • You can focus accurately by adjusting the left and right on the same target object.
   • For focusing with the diopter adjustment ring or focusing ring, rotate clockwise to focus on a distant subject, or counterclockwise for a nearby subject.
   • With the focus correctly adjusted, record the diopter adjustment ring index position for easier future diopter adjustment.
3. Finally, check the focus with both eyes.
4. When you view a different subject, adjust the focusing ring until you obtain a sharp image.

Turning the power off

1. Press the Power-On/Off button.
   The power turns off and the LED turns off.

Precautions regarding turning the power off
When turning the power off, press the Power-On/Off button. Do not open the battery-chamber cover while the power is on.
If you open the battery-chamber cover while the power is on and turn the power off, close the battery-chamber cover, and press the PowerOn/Off button to turn the power on once. Then, turn the power off.

Attaching the strap and eyepiece cap

• Be careful not to twist the strap when attaching.
• On the eyepiece cap, pass the strap through the loop part.

Specifications

1. Apparent field of view: Apparent field of view is calculated based on the ISO14132-1:2002 standard.
2. The effect of STABILIZED: Vibrations of the image caused by hand movement (sinusoidal waves) are reduced to approx. 1/5 or less (based on Nikon's measurement standards).
3. When alkaline AA batteries are used at approximately 20˚C (68˚F). This continuous operation time varies depending on environmental conditions such as temperature and other factors, therefore, use it as a guide only.
   • The batteries that came with this product are only to be used for operation checks. Due to natural electrical discharge, the life of these batteries will likely be shorter than that noted above.

When requesting for repair
Please contact your local dealer or the store where you purchased the product.
Do not disassemble. It may result in a serious incident. Please note that Nikon is not responsible for any direct or indirect damage if the user attempts to disassemble the product.

  The plastic bag used to wrap this product may block their mouths and noses and cause them to suffocate.
  In addition, note that small parts constitute a choking hazard.

• Do not entangle, wrap or twist the straps around your neck.

• Do not use batteries not specifically designated for use with this product.

• Do not leave the lenses pointed at the sun or other strong light sources.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to product's internal parts.
• Remove the batteries if this product will not be used for an extended period.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in fire or product malfunction.
• Do not leave the product where it will be exposed to extremely high temperatures for an extended period, such as in an enclosed automobile or in direct sunlight.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in fire or product malfunction.
• Take care that your fingers, hands, and skin do not get caught in the product.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in accidents or other injury.
• Cease use immediately should you notice any changes in your skin.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in skin irritation or inflammation.
• Keep the product at least 5 cm (2.0 in.) from pacemakers and other medical devices.
  Medical devices in close proximity could be affected by the magnet or magnets in the product.
• Check the condition of the product's rubber parts, eyecups, and accessories before use.
  They may deteriorate if used or stored for a long period of time, and may attach on clothes and cause stains.

• Do not mishandle batteries.
  Failure to observe the following precautions could result in the batteries leaking, overheating, rupturing, or catching fire:
  • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not expose batteries to flame or excessive heat.
  • Do not disassemble.
  • Do not short-circuit the terminals by touching them to necklaces, hairpins, or other metal objects.
  • Do not expose batteries or the products in which they are inserted to powerful physical shocks.
• If battery liquid comes into contact with the eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water and seek immediate medical attention.
  Delaying action could result in eye injuries.

(Batteries)

• Do not remove or damage the battery casing.
  Never use batteries with damaged casing.
  Failure to observe these precautions could result in the batteries leaking, overheating, rupturing, or catching fire.
• Keep batteries out of reach of children.
  Should a child swallow a battery, seek immediate medical attention.
• Keep batteries out of reach of household pets and other animals.
  The batteries could leak, overheat, rupture, or catch fire if bitten, chewed, or otherwise damaged by animals.
• Do not immerse batteries in water or expose to rain.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in fire or product malfunction.
  Immediately dry the product with a towel or similar object should it become wet.
• Insert batteries in the correct orientation.
  Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types.
  Failure to observe these precautions could result in the batteries leaking, overheating, rupturing, or catching fire.
• When batteries are no longer needed, insulate the terminals with tape.
  Overheating, rupture, or fire may result should metal objects come into contact with the terminals.
• If battery liquid comes into contact with a person's skin or clothing, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of clean water.
  Failure to observe this precaution could result in skin irritation.
• For information on handling and recharging rechargeable batteries, see the documentation provided by the manufacturers of the batteries and the battery charger.

Caring for the binoculars

• Do not drop
  Do not drop the product or subject it to blows. The product may malfunction if subjected to strong shocks or vibration.
• Keep dry
  Keep the product dry. Rusting of the internal mechanism caused by water inside the product can cause irreparable damage.
• Avoid sudden changes in temperature
  If you bring the product from a cold place to a warm place, or from a warm place to a cold place, water droplets may form inside and outside the product and cause damage. When you bring the product to a place with a temperature difference, place the product in a carrying case or plastic bag and seal it beforehand. When the product has adapted to the ambient temperature, take it out from the bag and use it.
• Keep magnetic products such as credit cards away from the product
  The recorded content of the magnetic product may get corrupted.
• Cleaning the body
  When cleaning the body, use a blower to gently remove dust and lint, then wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. After using the product at the beach or seaside, wipe off any sand or salt using a cloth lightly dampened in fresh water and then dry the product thoroughly.
• Cleaning the lenses
  These glass elements are easily damaged: remove dust and lint with a blower. If using an aerosol blower, keep the can vertical to prevent the discharge of liquid that could damage glass elements. To remove fingerprints and other stains from the lenses, apply a small amount of lens cleaner to a soft cloth and wipe the lenses carefully.
• Store in a well-ventilated area
  To prevent mold or mildew, store the product in a dry, well-ventilated area. Do not store the product with naphtha or camphor moth balls, next to equipment that produces strong electromagnetic, or where it will be exposed to extremely high temperatures, for example near a heater or in an enclosed vehicle on a hot day. Failure to observe these precautions could result in product malfunction.
• When the product will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries and store the product with a desiccant
  To prevent damage caused by, for example, leaking battery fluid, remove the batteries if the product will not be used for an extended period. Store the product in a plastic bag containing a desiccant. Note that desiccant gradually loses its capacity to absorb moisture and should be replaced at regular intervals. To prevent mold or mildew, take the product out of storage at least once a month, insert the batteries, and operate the product a few times.
• Turn the product off before removing the batteries
  Removing the batteries while the product is on could damage the product.
• Do not use excessive force when handling the product
  When opening and closing the product, such as when adjusting the interpupillary distance, move it slowly within the movable range. Also, when rotating the "focusing ring" or "diopter adjustment ring", move it within the movable range. Applying excessive force will result in damage to the product.
• Take care not to let sand or dust get into the rotating parts
  Letting sand or dust get into the rotating parts such as the "focusing ring" or "diopter adjustment ring" could result in product malfunction.
