  • Page 5 It is a CATV leakage detection system made up of three parts. The first part is a QAM Marker signal source which is installed at a headend or hub of a CATV system. The second part is the handheld/mobile Sniffer-HS unit.
  • Page 6 Figure 3 Control Panel and Display Power – Press the power button at the lower center of the control panel to turn the Sniffer-HS on or off. The CHARGE LED will be orange when the Sniffer HS battery is being charged and will turn green when the battery is fully charged.
  • Page 7 S-HS. The G-HS serial number will be shown in the top left corner of the S-HS display. To confirm the Sniffer-HS is correctly paired to the correct G-HS insert the S-HS in the docking cradle. With the vehicle running and the G-HS powered on, the S-HS will display the uV/m being measured in the main display window.

  • Page 9 Disconnect the charger and allow the battery to stabilize before attempting to charge it again. If the fault persists contact ComSonics Technical Support. Signal Level The signal level reading is the intensity of the received signal based on the distance setting.
  • Page 10 Leakage is indicated. The warble tone varies in loudness according to the volume setting and the bar graph indication. Use the Trigger Control, when no other setup function is active, to select a setting to optimize the warble loudness with variations in signal level. Sniffer-HS...
  • Page 11 When using the device to detect Band 2 leaks, extend the black main antenna housings so they are perpendicular to the Sniffer-HS housing. Do not extend the inner elements. When detecting Band 3 leaks, collapse the Dual Frequency antenna elements fully and stow the housings by folding back into the Sniffer-HS housing, then fully extend the Band 3 antenna housings from the unit.

  • Page 19 It is highly recommended to temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet before a Sniffer-HS is connected the first time. This can be done by either removing the network cable from the computer and/or by disabling a wireless connection. This step is recommended to prevent Windows Automatic Updates from choosing an incorrect USB driver file.
  • Page 20 Sniffer-HS Settings Refer to Figure 20 when configuring the Sniffer-HS. A few seconds after the Sniffer-HS is connected to the PC, the Connection Status will change to “Connected” and the unit’s serial number will be shown in the Serial Number window.
  • Page 21 Pair Sniffer to GQS: This is one way to connect a Sniffer-HS to a GQS. You will need to have the Sniffer connected to the PC, while the PC’s Bluetooth is on. Then have the GQS in close proximity. This tool will allow you to Bluetooth the devices together, if the criteria is met.
