The Grand Cru Electric Kettle holds 1.4 litres and is made of BPA-free plastic in the classic Grand Cru look with the four iconic grooves.
The electric kettle features easy fill and easy pour meaning that you don't have to remove the lid to fill it with water or to pour. The electric kettle has a 360-degree stainless steel base with a hidden cord reel.
Place the kettle on the base. Keep the cord as short as possible. Excess cord can be coiled under the base.
Remove the kettle from the base before filling it with water. The kettle has a screw lid. Leave the lid on when filling with water and during use (see Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
Easy fill and easy pour – leave the lid on when filling with water and pouring.
Minimum volume of 250 ml – don't boil more water than necessary for a cup of coffee or tea.
Only fill up to the jug's MAX marking of 1.4 litres. The lid only needs to be unscrewed for cleaning. To open the lid, it needs to be unscrewed (see Fig. 3).
Fig. 3
Removable limescale filter for easy cleaning – take hold of the filter and pull out gently.
If the kettle is filled above the jug's MAX marking, boiling water may splash out when the kettle is in use.
When using the kettle for the first time, fresh water should be boiled three times in the kettle first before drinking from it. This ensures that any minor impurities from production are removed.
Switch on the kettle using the ON/OFF switch under the handle (see Fig. 5). When boiling, steam/condensation may occur on or around the ON/OFF switch.
Fig. 5
ON/OFF switch – ights up when the kettle is on. With boil-dry protection. The kettle and light turn off automatically when the water reaches boiling point (100°C) or if the kettle boils dry of water.
The lid must be fitted correctly according to the instructions, i.e. the grooves must face the front towards the spout and be turned slightly to the right until it sits tightly. Incorrect installation invalidates the warranty. (see fig. 4)
Fig. 4
Correct installation of the lid – The lid must be fitted correctly according to the instructions, i.e. the grooves must face the front towards the spout and be turned slightly to the right until it sits tightly.
The limescale filter must be installed before boiling.
Once the water has reached boiling point (100°C), the kettle will automatically turn off and the light will go out in the lamp. If more water needs to be boiled, add new water and turn the switch back on. The automatic switch-off prevents accidental heating when the kettle is placed back on the base after pouring. Always unplug the kettle when not in use (Fig. 2).
Fig. 2
360-degree base with hidden cord winder – easy to place the kettle for optimal use. Use a washing-up brush or cloth and hot water to clean the filter of limescale residue.
Always check that the lid is in place before turning on the kettle. Otherwise, the kettle's automatic switch will not work optimally. Do not use the kettle without a lid as boiling water may splash out. If there are any irregularities regarding the automatic shut-off function, if the kettle switches off before reaching 100°C or after, the kettle should be descaled. Please refer to the section on maintenance.
Boil-dry protection
The electric kettle has built-in boil-dry protection, which means that the heating element switches off automatically if the electric kettle has a lot of limescale, if it is turned on without being filled with water or if it boils dry. If this happens, check if there are limescale deposits at the bottom of the kettle. Descale if necessary. Then, test the kettle by filling with water and switching it on. If the kettle continues to switch off before boiling, return the kettle with base for inspection to the dealer where the appliance was purchased.
Descaling the filter
The electric kettle is equipped with a removable limescale filter, which is located on the underside of the lid. The filter prevents limescale residue in the water from being poured into your cup. It is important to clean the limescale filter regularly so it doesn't scale up completely. In this case, water cannot pass optimally through the filter, which increases the risk of scalding.
The filter is easily removed from the kettle by pulling it out gently (see Fig. 3). You can brush limescale deposits off the filter under running water with a washing-up brush or cloth, or the filter can be soaked in vinegar or descaling liquid. After cleaning with clean water, click the filter back into place.
Cleaning the kettle
Unplug the appliance from the mains and allow it to cool down before starting any cleaning or other maintenance.
The outside of the kettle can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth using warm water and washing-up liquid. Dry with a soft dry cloth or towel. Never use scouring powder or other abrasive cleaners as this will scratch the surface.
Descaling the kettle
The kettle must be descaled regularly and limescale must not be allowed to form in the bottom.
General maintenance
Check every week that limescale is not starting to form in the kettle. It is recommended that you boil only the amount of water needed. This avoids water remaining in the kettle, which increases the amount of limescale. It also saves electricity.
Descale when needed. Use one of the following methods:
Method 1: To remove mild limescale, fill with colourless household vinegar once a week to cover the bottom of the jug. Leave the jug for a couple of hours, empty it and rinse thoroughly. Hint: to speed up the descaling process, use warm tap water (approx. 55°C).
Method 2: To remove coarse limescale deposits, you can fill with 0.25 litres of colourless vinegar and 0.75 litres of water. Turn on the kettle and allow to boil. Leave to stand and cool for 15 minutes and boil again twice.
After cleaning, boil water three times in the kettle before drinking it again. This ensures that no descaler residue is left in the kettle.
If there is still a lot of limescale left after descaling, the kettle should be descaled more often.
Only use descaler and vinegar to descale the kettle. Never use sharp objects when cleaning or descaling the hotplate at the bottom of the jug. Failure to descale the jug regularly may result in damage to the hotplate or the jug. This kind of damage is not covered by the warranty.
Read these instructions carefully before use and keep them for future reference.
Connect kettle to 220–240V and only use the kettle to boil water.
The kettle is for household use only. It is not intended for commercial use (e.g. in an industrial kitchen). If the kettle is used for any other purpose than that for which it is intended, or if it is not used in accordance with the instructions for use, the user shall be fully responsible for any consequences. Any damage to the kettle or personal injury as a result is thus not covered by the warranty.
Always use the kettle under supervision.
Do not turn on the kettle without water.
Remove the kettle from the base before filling it with water.
Never fill with more water than the MAX marking on the jug.
If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may splash out when the kettle is in use.
Risk of burn injury. Hot steam and boiling water may cause burns. Never open the lid when the kettle is in use and be careful when pouring out the water.
The kettle must only be used with its base.
Always unplug the kettle from the power source before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance.
To avoid fire, injury and electric shock, do not immerse any part of the kettle (except the removable limescale filter) in water or other liquids.
Do not use the kettle outdoors.
The kettle should always be placed on a stable and level surface such as a kitchen counter.
Never place kettle on or near hotplates, open flames or similar.
Hold the kettle by the handle and do not touch the hot surfaces. Never let the cord hang freely from the edge of a countertop or place it on a hot surface.
The kettle and power cord must be placed at a safe distance from stoves and other heat sources.
This kettle may only be used by children over the age of 8 and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of knowledge of the appliance after they have been instructed on the safe use of the kettle and on the risks associated with it. The training must be given by the person responsible for their safety and they should be supervised. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the kettle or use it irresponsibly. Children are often not good at assessing risks and perceiving dangerous situations.
Children should only clean and maintain the appliance if they are 8 years of age or older and under adult supervision
Do not use the kettle if any part of the appliance is damaged. To avoid danger, always inspect the kettle, handle, cord and plug for damage before use. Within the warranty period as defined by applicable law, the damaged element will be replaced or repaired by the manufacturer or the manufacturer's service facility or similarly qualified personnel. Use of elements other than those provided by the manufacturer may result in fire, personal injury or other hazards.
