Using the Touch Control Dial
Touching the Dial
A magnified image of the touch control dial displays on the LCD monitor when you place your finger on the dial. Circling your finger on the dial allows you to configure the functions assigned to each button.

- Functions that cannot be configured are shown in gray.
- The dial display (Touch Icons) can be turned On/Off in the
(Set up) menu. - When Touch Icons is set to [Off], the icon of the function being touched appears in green on the LCD monitor.

Circling Your Finger on the Dial
You can select categories or images by circling your finger on the dial. Circling counterclockwise works the same as the
button and circling clockwise the same as the
button. (It may also work as the
/
buttons with some functions.)

Indicator
The camera indicator lights or blinks under the following circumstances.
Never do the following while the indicator is blinking green.
These actions may corrupt image data.
- Shake or jolt the camera
- Shut off the power, or open the memory card slot/battery cover

Preparations
Charging the Battery
Charge the battery before use under the following circumstances.
- When using the battery for the first time.
- When the "Change the battery pack." message displays.
- Insert the battery into the battery charger.
- Plug the battery charger (CB-2LV) into a power outlet, or attach the power cord to the battery charger (CB-2LVE) and plug it into a power outlet.
Battery charger model names and types vary by region. The charge indicator will light orange while the battery is charging. It will change to green when the charge is complete. Charging takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

To protect the battery and prolong its life, do not charge it for longer than 24 hours continuously. |
Installing the Battery

- Slide the memory card slot/battery cover and open it (

). - Push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow (
) and insert the battery until it locks.
To remove the battery, push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow (
) and hold it while pulling the battery out.
Inserting the Memory Card

- Insert the memory card until it clicks into place.
- Close the memory card slot/battery cover (

Ensure that the memory card is correctly oriented before inserting it in the camera. Inserting it backward may cause the camera to fail to recognize the memory card or to malfunction. |
To Remove the Memory Card
Push the memory card with your finger or the toggle on the wrist strap until the memory card clicks and then release it.

First Time Settings
Setting the Date/Time

To set the daylight saving option, select the

The date and time can also be set in the Set up menu.
- A rechargeable lithium battery is built into the camera to save such settings as the date/time. This battery charges when the main battery is in the camera. When you purchase the camera, place the main battery in it for approximately four hours or use AC Adapter Kit ACK-DC10 (sold separately) to charge the lithium battery. It will charge even if the camera is turned off.
- The date/time settings may be lost after approximately three weeks if you remove the main battery. Reset the date/time settings if this occurs.

Setting the Display Language
- Press the
(playback) button. - Hold down the FUNC./SET button and press the MENU button.
- Use the
or
button to select a language and press the FUNC./SET button.
The display language can also be set in the Set up menu.
Basic Operations
Turning the Camera On/Off
- Press the power button or the
button.
The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor.

- Pressing the power button sets the camera to the shooting mode and pressing the
button set it to the playback mode. - Pressing the power button again turns the camera off.
- To switch to the setting that mutes all sounds (except for the warning sound), press and hold the MENU button while turning the camera on.
The
button can turn the camera on/off and switch between the shooting/playback modes.

When the camera focuses, it beeps twice and the indicator lights green (orange when the flash fires). In addition, a green AF frame appears in the LCD monitor on the portion of the image used to set the focus. - Press the shutter button fully to shoot.

The shutter sound will play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the image is recorded to the memory card.
Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting
After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
You can continue to display images regardless of the review duration setting with the following procedures.
- Keeping the shutter button pressed after a shot.
- Pressing the FUNC./SET or DISP. button while the image is displayed in the LCD monitor.
To stop displaying the image, press the shutter button halfway.
Selecting a Shooting Mode

Using the Self-Timer

- When the shutter button is pressed fully, the self-timer will activate and the self-timer lamp will blink (when using red-eye reduction, it will stay lit for the last 2 seconds).

Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots (

If the [Shots] option is set to 2 or more shots, the following occurs. - The exposure and white balance are locked at the set-tings selected for the first shot.
- If the flash is used, the interval between shots lengthens because the flash must charge.
- The interval between shots lengthens when the built-in memory of the camera fills.
- Shooting will automatically cease if the memory card becomes full.

Playback

The last recorded image will display. If you have replayed images, the last image viewed will display (Resume Playback). If the memory card has been switched, or the images on the memory card have been edited with a computer, the newest image on the memory card appears.

button to display the image you wish to view (

- Use the
button to move to the previous image and the
button to move to the next image. Holding the button down advances the images more rapidly, but shows them less clearly. - Circling your fingertip to the left or right on the touch control dial selects an image as follows. Moving the fingertip in a counterclockwise direction displays the previous image, and clockwise displays the next image.

Erasing
- In the playback mode, use the

To exit instead of erasing, select [Cancel].

Please note that erased images cannot be recovered.
Exercise adequate caution before erasing an image.
Menus and Settings
Settings for the shooting or playback modes or such camera settings as the print settings, date/time and sounds are set using the FUNC. menu or the Rec., Play, Print, Set up or My Camera menu.
This menu sets many of the common shooting functions.

Preparing to Download Images
Ensure that you install the software first before connecting the camera to the computer.
Items to Prepare
- Camera and computer
- Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk supplied with the camera
- Interface cable supplied with the camera
- Install the software.

- Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.
- Click [Easy Installation]. Follow the onscreen messages to proceed with the installation.

- When the installation is finished, the [Restart] or [Finish] button appears. Click the one that appears.

- Remove the CD-ROM from the drive when your normal desktop screen appears.

Double-click the

Downloading Images to a Computer - Windows
A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer.
- Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (first time only).

If the window to the right does not appear, click the [Start] menu and select [All Programs] or [Programs], followed by [Canon Utilities], [CameraWindow], [PowerShot - IXY - IXUS - DV 6] and [CameraWindow]. |
- Download the images.
- Download the images using the camera or the computer.
- By default, the downloaded images are saved into the [Pictures] or [My Pictures] folder.

Downloading Images to a Computer - Macintosh
The following window will appear when you establish a connection between the camera and computer. If it fails to appear, click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
- Download the images.
- Download the images using the camera or the computer.
- By default, the downloaded images are saved into the [Pictures] folder.

Downloading Images Using the Camera (Direct Transfer)
Use this method to download images using camera operations. Install the supplied software and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time.

The image selection screen will appear directly when the [Select & Transfer] or the [Wallpaper] option was last selected. |
