This is normal and will not occur after subsequent uses.

    OPERATION 1. Insert bread slices into the bread slot, use one piece of bread per slot. Never attempt to force oversized bread. 2. Plug the power cord into the socket outlet and switch the outlet on. 3. Turn the browning control knob to the desired setting. This controls the on time of the heating cycle, with the lower settings resulting in minimal toasting, the higher settings resulting in increased toasting (darker).

    CAUTION • If the toaster starts to smoke, activate the Cancel to stop toasting immediately. • Avoid toasting food with extremely runny ingredients such as butter. • Never attempt to remove bread jammed in the slots without unplugging the toaster from the electrical outlet first. Take care not to damage the internal mechanism or heating elements when removing bread.
