Problem:
The Pagers Are Not Receiving any Messages from the Paging Transmitter.
Step 1
There are 3 Main Items that "Must be Correct" for a Pager to Respond to a Paging Transmitter:
- 1
The Frequency and
- 2
If any 1 of these 3 items are Incorrect, the Pager will Not Respond to the Message(s) Sent from the Transmitter.
Check the SPS-5 Labels for the Frequency of the Transmitter you are Testing and so be sure the Pager Matches.
Check that the Pager's Cap Code and Baud Rate is Listed within the Pager Families "Range" of Cap Codes.
Check that the Pager ID or Pin Number you are using for the Test Corresponds (Matches) with the Pager Cap Code.
If All 3 of these Items are Correct and so Match in Both the Pager as well as the Pager Families of the Encoder...
Then Proceed to
Step 2
of Troubleshooting.
But First, Please become Familiar with the Transmitter LED Indicators, Located on the Side of the Transmitter.
Below I've Listed them and their Functions, Please take Note as I will Reference them from Time to Time.
They are:
-- The
Power LED
– Green – Only Should be "On" when Power Supply is Attached and Plugged into the Source
-- The
Data LED
– Green – Only Lit when the Correct Serial Cable is "Attached" - Flashes as Data is Passed thru the Port
-- The
Program LED
– Red – Only Lit when using the Encoder Software and after making a Connection, in Program Mode
-- The
RFCD LED
– Green – Only Lit when there is Interference from another Transmitter or other Type of Interference
-- The
RFTX LED
– Green – Only Lit
This LED Information is enough to get started, but I've also offered more Detailed Explanations about these Indicators and their Functions
at the End of this Troubleshooter.
For Reference, Generally you should only have 2 LED's On Constant for Normal
Step 2
Any Time a Transmitter is Not working as Expected...Whether or Not any Changes have been made to that Transmitter, but more so if
there has been a Saved Config File that has been used to try and Duplicate another Transmitter so that the New Transmitter
Matches...Then I Suggest Checking the Following Settings: The
Either of the 2 Settings can Keep the Encoder from Transmitting to the Pager or Keep the Pager from Responding at all.
Segment 1- Checking the
"Data
Assuming that All LED's look to be Working Normally as Listed above...The Scenario would be:
The Transmitter will Send-Out a Signal, you see the RFTX Lit Solid for 3-4 Seconds, but the Pager will Not Respond.
If this is Happening...Start with the
This generally will Probably be the Main Reason for the Transmitter to Fail, when All other Settings up to this Point have been Checked and
Confirmed to be Correct, (as Listed Above in Step 1).
To Check these Settings, you Must get into the Encoder's
To Gain Access to this Area of the Encoder Software, use "maint" as the Password (Without the Quotations).
In this "Advanced Settings" Window, we will be Changing the Data Polarity to be the "Opposite" of what it Shows Now.
So whatever Setting it is at this Moment, Change it to the Opposite Setting.
Then get back to the Main Screen and Program the Encoder with this New Setting and Try again to Test the Pager.
If this Corrects the Problem then Exit the Software Properly and the Transmitter is "Ready to Ship".
If this does Not Correct the issue, then Please Change this Setting Back to what it was Previously and Program the Encoder and then
move on to the
