- Page 6 2-2 Positively Earthed First, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) lead clamp of the charger to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal of the battery. Next, connect the POSITIVE (RED) lead clamp of the charger to the vehicle’s chassis - away from the fuel lines or moving parts. Step 3: Connect charger to main power Plug the battery charger to a UL or CSA safety approved 120V AC outlet.
