EchoPoint Installation Manual OVERVIEW Proper installation of the fiber-optic cable is critical for the performance, longevity, and maintainability of EchoPoint system. Installation of the fiber-optic cable is to be carried out by a trained and certified contractor, skilled in the safe cable handling procedures commonly used in the telecommunications sector.

    • No vegetation, bushes, or tree branches should be in contact with the fence. Fiber SenSys sensors work well for weld mesh, rigid, and decorative fences. The minimum recommended height for such fences is 2.4 m (8 ft.) and climb-over deterrent hardware should be securely mounted on top.

EchoPoint Installation Manual Splice enclosure This houses all splices in the field to protect from weather elements. The double end module is designed to be installed in the specific Coyote LCC enclosure. Cable ties Sensing cable is preferably attached to the fence with stainless steel cable ties if a long life and a high level of security is needed.

EchoPoint Installation Manual NOTE: EchoPoint uses SC/APC connectors. The connectors must be clean before they are plugged into the controller. SC/APC Patch cords SC/APC patch cords are spliced to the two sensor fibers in the lead-in cable. Test Cable This is shipped by the factory along with the EP9000 SERIES controller. The purpose of the test cable is to test whether the EP9000 SERIES controller is fully functional, and to aid in troubleshooting.

Black. Relay modules (optional): Sealevel relay boards are integrated with Fiber SenSys Inc. products through a USB interface. If a longer length is needed, then an ethernet cable can be used. Examples of some Sealevel relay boards are 410U (Shown below) and 410N.
  • Page 9: Cable Deployment

EchoPoint Installation Manual CABLE DEPLOYMENT Before the fiber-optic cable can be mounted on the fence, it is unreeled along the inside of the fence line. The two primary approaches to deploying the fiber-optic cable are (a) unreeling the cable off a cable truck as it moves along the fence and (b) pulling the cable off a stationary reel and around the site.
  • Page 10 EchoPoint Installation Manual For proper sensor performance, the cable must be held against the fence fabric and fence posts without slack. A minimum bend radius of 6” must be maintained on all cable turns. Stainless steel cable ties are recommended for a durable cable attachment. UV-stabilized nylon cable ties may be used in geographic areas with low average UV levels.

  • Page 12: Cable Installation On Gates

EchoPoint Installation Manual CABLE INSTALLATION ON GATES Generally, there are two types of gates encountered on fence perimeters: swinging gates and sliding gates. Sliding gates must be bypassed, and protected by another type of sensor (e.g., a wireless gate sensor or a microwave sensor). Swinging gates can be protected by EchoPoint sensor cable.

EchoPoint Installation Manual LEAD-IN CABLE INSTALLATION The lead-in fiber-optic cable connects the sensor cable to the indoor EchoPoint controller (Figure 6). Any combination of standard or site-specific installation procedures for fiber-optic telecommunication cables may be used when installing the lead cable. Consult relevant regulations to determine whether a different cable type needs be installed indoors.
