Environmental Microphone Type 41AO / 41AO - S Main Components The main components of the Type 41AO are (see also Fig. 2.1): The main body comprises essentially a stainless-steel tube (GR1094 for housing the Preamplifier) and a base (GR1096) that can be unscrewed (to enable inserting the Pream- plifier).

A calibration using either a Pistonphone or Calibrator requires first unscrewing the windscreen from the Type 41AO and mounting the pistonphone/calibrator directly onto the exposed micro- phone (Fig. 4.1) in the normal way and switching on. After calibration, replace the windscreen.
Environmental Microphone Type 41AO / 41AO - S Maintenance The windscreen should be cleaned as and when necessary depending on the severity of local conditions. Unscrew the windscreen, remove the foam inner sleeve and pull the top foam component up and out of its cage and wash it in clean water.
