    2. Technology Overview The Paper Feeder (PF) is an option to be installed on the bottom of a printer. The printer supports 3-cassette Paper Feeder. Print paper flow is shown below: Simplex paper path Duplex paper path The pickup operation of the Paper Feeder is controlled by performing serial communication between the Paper Feeder Controller and the DC Controller.
  • Page 14 2. Technology Paper Feeder Motor +3.3VB +24VD Clutch Solenoid Paper Feeder DC controller controller Sensor Switch If the Paper Feeder Controller PCB does not perform serial communication during warm-up rotation, the DC Controller judges the connection failure of the Paper Feeder and notifies a warning. The following table shows a list of electrical components.
  • Page 15: Pickup/Feed Control

    2. Technology Pickup/Feed Control Pickup/feed control of the Paper Feeder uses the same mechanism as printer. Rollers in the Paper Feeder are operated through the Pickup Motor (M2) of the printer via gears. Pickup/feed control sequence of the Paper Feeder is shown below: 1.
  • Page 16: Cassette Lift-Up Operation

    2. Technology Cassette Lift-up Operation Paper inside a cassette is lifted up by the Lifting Plate. When the Lifting Plate is rising, the PF Lifter Motor (M5) is controlled to keep the paper surface steady so that pickup can be performed stably.
  • Page 17: Cassette Detection

    2. Technology Cassette detection Cassette detection of the Paper Feeder is performed in the same way as the printer. The cassette detection flag of the cassette is detected by the Cassette Detection Switch (SW3) in the Paper Feeder. When the cassette presence is changed, the DC Controller notifies the Main Controller of the status change.
  • Page 18: Cassette Double Feed Prevention Mechanism

    2. Technology Cassette Double Feed Prevention Mechanism At Normal Time The Cassette Separation Roller is driven by the Cassette Feed Roller drive via paper. This causes the Cassette Separation Rollers to rotate in the feed direction. During Double Feed Since the friction force between sheets of paper becomes weaker when there are multiple sheets of paper, the Cassette Feed Roller drive force transmitted to the Cassette Separation Roller becomes extremely weak.
  • Page 19: Jam Detection

    2. Technology Jam Detection Jam during pickup/feed from the Paper Feeder is detected by the DC Controller of the printer. The following sensor performs jam detection. • PS432: PF Media Path Sensor PS432 * For jam code and detection description, refer to the Service Manual of the host machine.
