It is assumed that these extreme values do not occur
simultaneously. The moments refer to the wheel center.
2. Further technical data
– Wheel speed (max.)
– Temperature limits
◦ Structure parts
◦ Wheel angle encoder
(short time <170°C)
◦ Electronics and batteries
◦ Battery (charge)
(other ranges on demand)
Make sure that the limits stated above are not exceeded at any
time. Should this nevertheless occur, the overload is displayed
by the red LED. In this case, the wheel force transducer (WFT)
must no longer be used until the structural parts have been
checked thoroughly and operational safety is ensured.

3. Load capacity (permitted alternating stress)
Rotating bending fatigue test >10
for specific design (12.0x18'', offset 73 mm / 13.0x18'',
offset 57.5 mm)
 other dimensions and designs to be confirmed.
4. Initial preparation
– Before using the RoaDyn Racing on a specific vehicle for
the first time, the fixture for the angle anchor has to be
designed and produced.
– Fix the encoder anchor (leaf spring) to the car. Double-
check correct position of the angle anchor by mounting
the RoaDyn Racing WFT.
 See the example below:

/ produce the
fixture
5. Preparations before test day
– Recharge the batteries.
– Check storage capacity by connecting the RoaDyn Racing via
the supplied USB cable (45 minutes is equal to 640 Mbyte).
– Connect PC with USB port. Open the Setup.ini file inside the
setup folder and fill in the test parameters (details see 13).
– Delete the entries in the log file (optional).
– Mount the tire on the rim.
– If there is a risk of damaging the electronics when
mounting the tire, you are strongly recommended to
dismount the sensor body first.
– If ordered, a dummy plate should be mounted inside the
rim to avoid deformation of the rim ring during the tire
mounting procedure.
– Remount the sensor body and balance the entire RoaDyn
Racing WFT.
– Tightening torque of the 16 pcs M8 screws is 31 Nm ± 1 Nm.
Exchange the screws periodically (recommended: use new
screws after every second exchange, or sooner if they are
not in good condition).
6. On test day
To warm up the load cells, switch on the RoaDyn Racing
30 minutes before you start the zeroing procedure or the
test run. Keep an eye on the remaining battery power.
Alternatively, the warm-up time can be reduced to
5 minutes but in this case, a new zero point adjustment
should be carried out after the first test run.
1.
Place the wheel on a level floor with the sensor side
facing upwards.
2.
Check power is on by looking at the green LED. Hold
the Start/Stop/Zero button down for >5 secs to zero
the forces → LED will blink during zeroing.
3.
Fix the encoder anchor (leaf spring) to the car, using
the mounting device for accurate positioning. Pack a
–20 ... 20 kN
set of two leaf springs to prevent them from jumping
out of the angle encoder.
–15 ... 15 kN
4.
Lift the vehicle horizontally.
–5 ... 5 kN·m
5.
Mount the wheel. Be careful not to 'crash' the encoder
anchor. Car remains lifted.
–5 ... 5 kN·m
6.
Turn the magnet ring of the angle encoder from the
outside until the leaf spring (encoder anchor) jumps
into its home position.
7.
Mount two fully charged batteries. The system will not
shut down when you change the batteries one by one.
2,800 / min
8.
If power is off, switch on the electronics by pressing
the ON button for 0.2 ... 1 second. The RUN/ACK LED
–20 ... 125°C
will turn green (but not bright).
–20 ... 125°C
9.
Execute the angle offset.
a. Rotate the wheel two revolutions or more so load
cells A and D are facing upwards.
–20 ...85°C
b. Hold the ON button down for 2-6 seconds. Orange
–20 ... 50°C
LED will blink.
c. Use the spirit level to accurately level the wheel
(see Figure 1).
d. Press the ON button again if the wheel is
horizontal. The green LED blinks twice.
e. The angle offset has been saved for this anchor
position.

f. As long as the wheel is not used in another
position, the angle offset procedure does not need
to be repeated.
10. To start the acquisition, press the Start/Stop button for
0.2 .... 1 second → LED will blink while measuring.
11. To stop the acquisition, press the Start/Stop button for
0.2 .... 1 second → RUN/ACK LED will glow green.
12. If more than one WFT is used on a vehicle, you can
start the measurement by pressing the start button
as explained before. Alternatively, you can also start
the WFTs simultaneously by using the remote control
(optional). Connected to an external device, the remote
control can be used in master or slave mode.
13. Data download: connect the PC to the USB port. Data
files will be found in the Measurement folder. No
software is required.
14. Import CSV files into DAQ (e.g. jBEAM) for
visualization and analysis.
15. Turn the system off by pressing the ON button for
>7 secs to save battery power.
Additional notes
– Verify the correct angle setting by performing a short
plausibility check before starting a measurement
campaign: for example, rotate the wheel as long as the
vehicle is lifted. F
should remain constant close to 0 N
x
while F
should also remain constant at a level equal to the
z
wheel weight.
– Moments are calculated to the center of the tire, based on
the lever arm (DOSEX).
– Range limits are set at 80% of maximum range. Values
exceeding the limits are indicated by the red LED.
