Device Overview

Setup

  1. Optional castors are provided for product mobility. To attach, align each castor post (9) with a respective hole on the bottom of the unit. Push each castor down into the hole until it clicks into place. (Product will function without castors.)
  2. Plug power cord into outlet. Turn master power switch (1) into the "On" position ("—"). This switch is located on the side of the unit.
  3. Raise Auto Feed Tray (2) into the upright position until you hear it lock into place.
  4. When green POWER light (3) is on and all red error lights are off, the shredder is ready for use.

Operation

Only one shredder slot can be used at a time. Attempting to use two slots at the same time will cause the shredder to stop and the red Over Load light to illuminate.

TO USE AUTO FEED, place a stack of up to 75 sheets of paper into the auto feed tray (2). The shredder will beep for 3-5 seconds as it senses the load in the tray. No further action is necessary.

warning Please note:

  • All paperclips and staples must be at the top of the paper (furthest away from the shredder opening).
  • Do not insert additional paper into the Auto Feed tray when it is already in use.
    Operation

TO USE MANUAL FEED, insert up to 6 sheets of paper into the manual feed slot (4).

TO SHRED CDS/DVDS OR CREDIT CARDS, insert object into the front slot (5).

TO EMPTY BIN, turn the master power off ("O") using the master power switch (1) and remove the bin. Replace bin once empty and turn power switch to On ("—") to continue shredding.

TO USE MANUAL REVERSE OR FORWARD, hold the reverse or forward button (6) down for the shredder to continue shredding in the desired mode.

Changing between reverse and forward will result in a 2-3 second delay as the blades change direction.

To clear a paper jam, see Troubleshooting section.

Maintenance

Regular emptying of the bin is important to ensure the smooth operation of the cutting cylinders. The shredder will not operate when the bin is full. Regular oiling is also necessary for proper performance. It is recommended to use shredder oil every few weeks. Apply across shredder entry, then run a single sheet through. Shredder oil can be purchased by calling 1-800-297-5028.

Cleaning

Always unplug the shredder before cleaning!

  • Only clean the shredder by wiping the unit with a dry soft cloth or towel.
  • Do not clean or immerse shredder in water. Getting the unit wet may result in damage or malfunction to the electrical components. If the shredder happens to get wet, be sure to completely dry the unit immediately with a soft cloth or towel. If shredder does get wet, it should be left unplugged for several hours.
  • Never use anything flammable to clean the shredder. This may result in serious injury or damage to the shredder.

Troubleshooting

If you have a problem with your shredder, check the symptoms and remedies below. If you cannot solve the problem this way, contact Black & Decker paper shredders Customer Service. Do not open shredder head to attempt repair: It could expose you to electric shock and will void your warranty.

Symptom Remedy
Shredder does not start.
  • Make sure shredder is plugged in and master power switch (1) is in the "On" position("—").
  • Make sure the bin (7) is fully closed.
  • Make sure the toggle lock (10) for the Auto Feed tray is in the"lock" position.
Paper is jammed in Auto Feed tray (2).
  1. Use a coin or flat-head screwdriver to twist the toggle lock (10) clockwise 90º to open.
  2. Flip the panel up.
  3. Remove jammed paper.
  4. Close panel.
  5. Move toggle lock counter clockwise to 90o the "lock" position.
Paper is jammed in Manual slot (4).
  • If paper jams in manual slot the shredder will automatically shift to reverse. Carefully pull up on the paper to remove the jammed paper from the slot.

  • Check that all staples & small paperclips are at the top of the page, furthest away from the shredder opening.
  • Check that paper is not folded, and no sealed envelopes or other unsupported materials are in Auto Feed Tray.
  • Reduce number of sheets in tray.
Shredder does not start immediately when paper is placed in the slot.
  • No action required. In both the Auto Feed and Manual modes, allow 3 to 5 seconds for shredding to begin.
  • If shredder does not start after 3 to 5 seconds, attempt the steps above under "Shredder does not start."
Shredder squeaks, grinds, or runs below capacity.
  • Check to see if bin is full. If bin is full, follow instructions under maintenance.
