Description

North America's #1 home fire safety brand (based on total household installations as of December 2022) is bringing you the next level of fire and carbon monoxide safety with the FireX Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm model CUACFEX-V.

This alarm offers a modern 5" design ideal for all living spaces. Cutting edge technology sends fast alerts that give your family more time to get out safely and enhanced sensing technology reduces false alarms often caused by cooking.

Comprehensively tested and designed to the latest UL standard for safety and reliability, this FireX alarm is powered by a 120V AC with 2 AA replaceable backup batteries (included) for continual detection even during outages and alerts you to both smoke & carbon monoxide (CO) using a single, cost-effective device.

Plus, it's self-testing and easy to install with the included twist-and-click mounting bracket. Equipped with end-of-life notifications, the alarm will beep to remind you it's time to replace it 10 years after it is powered. This model also features voice alerts that let you know exactly why your alarm is sounding and interconnected alarm activation so you never miss an emergency and can get out faster.

Alarm Warnings

featuring multi-color LEDs

Fire: The red LED will flash in sync with the alarm pattern (3 long beeps).
The alarm will repeat this pattern until the unit is reset or smoke is eliminated.

Carbon Monoxide: The red LED will flash in sync with the alarm pattern (4 quick beeps).
This continues until the unit is reset or the CO is eliminated.

Low Battery: One chirp and amber LED flash per minute.

Alarm Memory: Alerts a user if smoke or CO has been detected in the last 24 hours. If smoke has been detected, the red LED blinks every 15 sec. If CO has been detected, the red LED blinks twice every 15 sec.

Features & Benefits

VOICE ALERTS
Crystal-clear voice alerts tell you exactly why your alarm is sounding so you can react quickly.

INTERCONNECTED ALARMS*
When one alarm sounds, they all sound, so you never miss an emergency and can get out faster.

REDUCED NUISANCE ALARMS
Enhanced sensing technology reduces false alarms often caused by cooking.

SELF-TESTING**
For added assurance, internal components ensure alarm is always operating as expected.

  • Double the Detection – Alerts you to both smoke & carbon monoxide (CO) using a single, cost-effective device.
  • 2 AA Replaceable Batteries – Provides power even during short-term power outages for extra peace of mind. Change replaceable batteries every 6 months, or when you hear the low battery chirp.
  • Voice Alerts – Crystal-clear voice alerts tell you exactly why your alarm is sounding so you can react quickly.
  • Interconnected Alarms* – When one alarm sounds, they all sound, so you never miss an emergency and can get out faster.
  • Self-testing Alarms** – For added assurance, internal components ensure alarm is always operating as expected.
  • Simple Installation – Easy install with included twist-and-click mounting bracket.
  • End-of-life Notifications – This alarm beeps to remind you it's time to replace it 10 years after it is powered.

*Different models offer different interconnect options and requirements. Check the User Guide for more info.
**Self-testing is not a substitute for a manual push test of the alarm. Perform a button test once per week to verify proper alarm operation.

Installation of Alarm

This model meets the latest residential smoke alarm standards, which includes enhanced resistance to nuisance alarms from cooking. Industry experts recommend that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help ensure optimal detection of the various types of fires that can occur within the home. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire particles (associated with slow smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Industry experts recommend specific locations for smoke alarms, such as every level and sleeping area of the dwelling. They also recommend a CO alarm be installed on each level of the home — ideally on any level with fuel-burning appliances and outside of sleeping areas. The alarm can be installed on the surface of any wall or ceiling following the UL/NFPA/Manufacturer's recommended placement guidelines, on any standard single gang electrical box, up to a 4"octagon junction box. See User Guide for more location information and additional instructions.

The alarm should be installed to comply with all local codes having jurisdiction in your area, Article 760 of the National Electric Code, and NFPA 72. Make certain all alarms are wired to a single, continuous (non-switched) power line, which is not protected by a ground fault interrupter. A maximum of 1000 ft. of wire can be used in the interconnect system. Use standard UL listed household wire (18 gauge or larger as required by local codes).

A maximum of 24 Kidde devices can be interconnected in a multiple station arrangement. The interconnect system must not exceed the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) limit of 18 initiating devices, of which 12 can be smoke alarms. With 18 initiating devices (smoke, heat, CO, etc), interconnected, it is still possible to interconnect 6 strobe lights and or relay modules.

Architectural & Engineering Specifications

This product is intended for use in indoor residential locations. It is not designed to measure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) commercial or industrial standards.

This device is designed to help protect individuals from acute effects of Carbon Monoxide exposure. It will not fully safeguard individuals with specific medical conditions. If in doubt, consult a medical practitioner. Individuals with medical problems may consider using warning devices which provide audible and visual signals for carbon monoxide concentrations under 30 ppm.

CO alarm response times:
70 ppm: 60-240min
150 ppm: 10-50min
400 ppm: 4-15min

The alarm shall include a test button that will electronically simulate the presence of smoke and CO and cause the unit to go into both modes of alarm. This sequence tests the unit's electronics to ensure proper operation. The unit shall incorporate three LED colors. A green LED will be steady on when AC power is connected, or flash every 60 seconds when in the battery only mode. An amber LED will indicate fault conditions. A red LED will flash in sync with the smoke alarm pattern, and will also indicate alarm memory.

The unit shall include the Hush™ feature that silences a smoke alarm for approximately 8-10 minutes if a nuisance alarm condition occurs. The red LED on the alarm will flash every 2 seconds while in Hush and will automatically reset itself.

At the date of manufacture, the unit shall at a minimum meet the requirements of UL 217, UL 2034, NFPA 72, NFPA 101 (One and two family dwellings), Federal Housing Authority (FHA), and Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
