INSTALLATION

Preparation

Please read and understand entire manual before installation.
Consult a qualified technician for detailed instructions or installation assistance.

Before You Start

  • Disconnect negative battery terminal.
  • Avoid installing the unit where it would be subject to high temperatures, such as from direct sunlight, or where it would be subject to dust, dirt or excessive vibration.

Getting Started
Typical ISO-DIN Installation

  • Unpack unit from its protective packaging.
  • Connect vehicle wiring harness and antenna to this receivers harness. See wiring instructions. Consult a qualified technician if you are unsure.
  • Certain vehicles may require an installation dash kit and/or wiring harness adapter (sold separately).
  • Reconnect battery negative terminal.
  • Test for correct operation and secure back into dashboard.
  • Snap trim ring into place if needed.

Tips
When replacing a fuse, make sure to use the correct type and amperage. Using an incorrect fuse could cause damage. The unit uses (1) 10 amp ATC blade-type fuse located on the back of the unit.

Front/Rear camera inputs
Up to two cameras (not included) can be used. We recommend JENSEN Part # BUCAM200J for front camera and BUCAM300AJ or BUCAM400AJ for rear camera.
For more information on how to install the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle tuner, consult the installation guide included with the tuner (SiriusXM connect tuner and subscription sold separately).

Remote Control Preparation

Remove battery insulation tape.

To insert or replace the battery, remove the battery holder.

Remove the battery from the battery holder.

Install the new battery. Make sure to keep the (+) side up.

Insert the battery holder.

Notes:

  • The remote control uses one 3 volt Lithium CR2025 battery. Remove the battery if the remote will not be used for a month or longer.
  • Remove and dispose of battery properly.
  • Do not store battery with metallic objects or materials.

On Screen Controls

On Screen Controls Overview

Screen Brightness Press up to two times to dim the screen. Press a third time to put the unit in standby mode (screen will go black). Press anywhere on the screen to return to normal screen operation.
Voice Assistant Press to activate the voice assistant feature.
Audio Press to access and adjust audio settings.
Settings Press to display and adjust system settings.

Audio Settings

Select any of the preset EQ settings (Flat, Classic, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Beat or User) or use the touch screen to manually adjust EQ settings.

Select any of the preset Surround settings: Concert, Church, Passive, Wide, Live or None.

Adjust balance (8L to 8R) and fader (8F to 8R), or use the touch screen to manually adjust balance and fader settings.

Settings Menu

From the Main Menu, press the gear icon to access the Setup menu and adjust the following: General, Audio, Display and Bluetooth.

General:

  • OSD Language - Select English.
  • Wallpaper - Select from three different wallpaper options.
  • Radio Area - Select Europe, USA, South America or Asia.
  • Time Setting - Set the date (month, day, year) and time (hours, minutes, AM/PM and 12-hour or 24-hour clock).
  • Beep - Enable or disable the audible beep.
  • Camera - Enable or disable the rear camera input.
  • Version - Press to display version numbers.
  • Restore Default - Press to restore unit to default factory settings.

Audio:

  • Audio Settings - Press to access and adjust audio settings.
  • Subwoofer - Press to adjust subwoofer frequency and volume.
  • Loudness - Enable or disable the loudness feature.

Display:

  • Aspect Ratio - Select desired region (America, Europe or Latin).
  • Adjust - Press to adjust screen brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and shaprness.
  • Panel - Select from the following Backlight settings: Off, 10 seconds, 20 seconds or 30 seconds.

Bluetooth:

  • Bluetooth - Turn Bluetooth signal on or off.
  • Auto Answer - Turn auto answer feature on or off.

Tuner Operation

Tuner Operation Overview

Radio Operation Select the Radio icon from the Main Menu screen.
Main Menu Press to return to Main Menu screen.
Mode Indicator Displays the current mode of operation.
Tune Down Press to tune to a lower frequency one step at a time. Press and hold to automatically tune to the last strong station.
Preset Stations Press any preset station stored in the current band to tune radio to saved frequency. To save presets, tune the radio to desired station, then press and hold the desired preset button to save the station.
Band Press to select between 2 AM and 3 FM bands.
Local | Distance Press to toggle between local and distance tuning.
Stereo | Mono Press to toggle between Stereo and Mono tuning.
AS | PS Press to scan presets and listen to the first 10 seconds of each. Press again to stop scanning and listen to the station. Press and hold to automatically find and store the strongest stations as presets,
Tune Up Press to tune to a higher frequency one step at a time. Press and hold to automatically tune to the last strong station.

USB/microSD Operation

USB/microSD Operation Overview

USB/microSD Operation To play MP3 files from a USB device or microSD card, insert a USB device or microSD card, and playback will begin automatically. To return to USB or microSD playback from another mode of operation, select the corresponding icon from the Main Menu.
Main Menu Press to return to Main Menu screen.
Mode Indicator Displays the current mode of operation.
File Information Displays information about the current file.
Previous Track Press to go back to the previous track. Press and hold to fast reverse the current track, then press PLAY / PAUSE to resume playback.
Play / Pause Press to pause the current track, then press again to resume playback.
Next Track Press to advance to the next track. Press and hold to fast forward the current track, then press PLAY / PAUSE to resume playback.
Folder Search Press to access the directory of folders and files. Use the up/down arrows to scroll through the folder list, then press on the name of the desired folder to access it. Use the up/down arrows to scroll through the file list, then press on the name of the desired file to access it.
Random Press to turn Random feature on or off.
Repeat Select a Repeat option: All, One, Folder or Off.

Notes:

  • It is not possible to view JPG files on the in-dash monitor while the vehicle is moving. This is a safety feature to prevent driver distraction.
  • The JPG image viewer function will only operate when vehicle is in park and the parking
Media Compatibility The following types of files are not compatible:
  • MP3 PRO format, MP3 playlists

  • AAC, protected AAC, M4A format
Playback Order MP3 playback sequence begins in the root folder. Any folders that do not include MP3/JPG files are skipped.
Compatible Recording Formats ISO9660 standards:
  • Maximum nested folder depth is 8 (including the root folder).
  • Valid characters for folder/file names are letters A-Z (all caps), numbers 0-9, and "_" (underscore). Some characters may not be displayed correctly, depending on the character type.
Notes Some files may not play, depending on sampling rates and bit rates. For best results, use the following settings when ripping MP3 files: 128kbps or higher constant bit rate; 44.1kHz or higher sampling frequency.

Bluetooth Operation

Bluetooth Operation Overview - Part 1

Preparation Before using a Bluetooth device, it must be paired and connected. Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your device before you begin the pairing process.
Pairing a New Device The unit broadcasts the pairing signal constantly when no devices are currently connected. Complete the pairing sequence from your Bluetooth device. Refer to the owner's manual for your device for more details. The device name is "JENSEN CR271ML". The unit can be in any mode of operation when pairing is performed. On certain phones, pairing may need to be done more than once.
Connecting a Paired Device Most Bluetooth devices support the auto-connect feature and will connect automatically if the device is in range when the unit is powered-on. If your device was previously paired but does not connect, enter the Bluetooth setup menu and turn Auto Connect on.
Bluetooth Phone To access the phone, select Bluetooth Phone from the Main Menu or from any operational mode.
Main Menu Press to return to Main Menu screen.
Mode Indicator Displays the current mode of operation.
Keypad Use the keypad to dial a phone number.
Backspace Press to backspace when using the keypad.
Keypad Display Press to display the keypad.
Music Display Press to display Bluetooth music.
Contact Display Press to display Contact list, then press desired contact to initiate a call.

Bluetooth Operation Overview - Part 2

Paired Device List Press to display a list of paired devices, and select desired device to connect.
Talk Press to connect a call to the number entered.
End Call Press to end a call.
Previous Track Press to go back to the previous track.
Play / Pause Press to pause the current track, then press again to resume playback.
Next Track Press to advance to the next track.

Activating SiriusXM® Radio After installing your SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and antenna, power on your radio and select SiriusXM mode. You should be able to hear the SiriusXM preview channel on Channel 1. After you can hear the Preview channel, tune to Channel 0 to find the Radio ID of your tuner. The In addition. Radio ID is located on the bottom of the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and its packaging.
Note: SiriusXM Radio ID does not include letters I, O, S or F.

Activation typically takes 10-15 minutes, but may take up to one hour. It is recommended to leave your vehicle on until the "Subscription Updated" message appears. Your radio will need to be powered on and receiving the SiriusXM signal to receive the activation message. Once activated, you can tune to channels in your subscription plan.
Accessing SiriusXM® Radio From the Main Menu, touch the SiriusXM icon to access SiriusXM mode and begin operation.

SiriusXM Satellite Radio Operation Overview

Main Menu Press to return to the Main Menu screen.
Band Touch to select a band of preset channels. Three bands are available: SXM1, SXM2, and SXM3. Each band can store up to six preset channels. (Preset channels are accessed from the List icon.)
Current Mode Indicator Displays current mode of operation.
Program Information Displays program information such as channel name, artist name and song title.
Search Press to enter search mode, then press Channel to choose between the following search options: Channel, Artist, Song Title or Info. Use the up/down arrows on the left side to navigate categories, and use the up/down arrows on the right side to navigate channels, artists, song titles or info.
Preset Channel List
Preset Channel List Press to display a list of preset channels in the current band.
Category & Channel


Press to display/adjust the options Mode, Tune Scan and Go to Live.
Mode - Press to access and adjust the following options:

  • Parental Code - When enabled, the Parental Control feature requires you to enter a passcode to tune to the locked channels. Press "Change" to change the parental code. Follow the prompts to enter the current code, then enter and confirm the new code. The default code for the unit is "0000".
  • Parental Control - The Parental Control feature allows you to limit access to any SiriusXM channels, including those with mature content. Select a Parental Control option: Off (turns Parental Control off) Mature (locks all mature channels) or User (allows the user to lock specific channels using the Parental Lock Channel feature). Enter the Parental Code when prompted to confirm the change.
  • Parental Lock Channel - Press "SET" to select specific specific channels to lock. Press "All Clear" to clear all locked channels.
  • Channel Skipping - Press "SET" to select channels to skip.
  • TuneStart™ - Press "ON" or "OFF" to enable or disable TuneStart. With the TuneStart feature turned ON, you will hear the beginning of the song when you tune to one of your Preset channels. It may take a minute or two for the feature to work after power up or after changing preset bands.

TuneScan™ - Press TuneScan button to initiate the TuneScan function. The unit plays samples from the start of multiple buffered songs from each of the Preset Channels that predominantly play music selections,. This gives the user easy access to a large sampling of music content, and they can enjoy hearing a full song when stopping the scan on a song of interest. Pressing TuneScan again will stop the TuneScan function and continue playing the song currently being scanned. Pressing and holding the TuneScan button cancels the TuneScan and returns the user to the original channel that was tuned when TuneScan was first initiated.
Go to Live - Press to resume play of live broadcast while in Replay mode.

Preset Buttons Press and hold any preset button (1-6) to save the current station as a preset. Press the desired preset button to begin playback of the corresponding preset channel.
Direct Press to display screen for direct channel access. Press the desired channel number, then press Enter. Playback of desired channel will begin.
Channel Down Press to go back to the previous channel.
Channel Up Press to advance to the next channel.
On-Screen Controls Press to display the following controls on the bottom of the screen.
  1. Press to adjust screen brightness or put the monitor into standby mode.
  2. Press to access audio setting such as EQ, Surround Sound Settings and Field Settings (Balance and Fader).
  3. Press to access the Settings Menu.
Replay is a feature that allows the user to pause, rewind and replay content from the active channel. During Replay, the Replay bar will appear towards the top of the screen and display replay time in red and time to live in yellow. The time to live play will also be displayed as a number above the Replay bar.
Tune/Track Down Press to enter Replay mode. Once in Replay mode, press to skip to the previous track or press and hold to fast reverse.
Play/Pause Press to pause and replay content from the active channel.
Tune/Track Up Press to skip to the next track. Press and hold to fast forward. Press repeatedly to "catch up" and resume live play. Selecting Go to Live under Additional Options will also resume live play.

App Operation

The Jensen Smart app is the ultimate wireless remote control for your receiver. You can download the Jensen Smart app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and install it on your smartphone or tablet. Scan the following QR code to download the Jensen J-Link P1 application on your smartphone.

Voice Assistant

Your receiver is designed with an easy access voice activation button to use Siri® or the Google Assistant™ via your car's Bluetooth. Interact with your smartphone assistant while you drive with only the push of a button!
Bluetooth should be paired between your smartphone and the receiver. Press the voice activation button, and the receiver will switch into Bluetooth mode, This will activate Siri® or Google Assistant™ on your smartphone. You will need to manually switch back to the previous or desired mode once this operation is terminated.

Rear Camera

Connect an optional rear camera to the Rear Camera input (Yellow RCA) connector for video Refer to the wiring diagram for details.
Manual selection - Touch the REAR CAMERA icon from the Main Menu or from any operational mode (when enabled) to select camera mode. Touch the top left area on the screen to exit camera mode.
Note: The manual mode is for dedicated cameras that are ALWAYS on while driving, it is not meant for cameras that are connected to the vehicle's reverse light. The unit will automatically select camera mode when connected to the reverse lamp circuitry.
Note: External video output is not active when using the rear camera input.

Front Camera

Connect an optional front camera to the Front Camera inputs (Yellow RCA connector for video). Refer to the wiring diagram for details.
To access the front camera, touch the CAMERA icon in the Main Menu. The unit displays rear camera by default.
Press the Front Camera icon in the top right corner to switch to front camera view.

Auxiliary Input

Connect an optional audio source into the auxiliary input on the right side of the front panel.
Select the auxiliary input icon from the Main Menu to listen to audio.
Adjust volume on the external audio source as needed (if connected to the headphone output of the device).

A/V Input

Connect an optional audio source into the rear A/V input.
Select A/V Input from the Main Menu to listen to audio.
Adjust volume on the external audio source as needed (if connected to the headphone output of the device).

Steering Wheel Controls

A third-party adapter must be used in order for the CR271ML to be compatible with any OEM steering wheel controls.
The CR271ML has a built-in 3.5mm SWC interface that compatible with many popular 3rd party SWC control modules, such as PAC, METRA, and others.

We recommend the PAC SWI-RC.

  1. Set "Radio Select Switch". Set the SWI-RC to position 7 - "Pioneer/Other/Sony".
  2. To program, use the Pioneer/Sony/Other radio function mapping order.
  3. When programming the SWI-RC, if a function is not supported (or not desired), then the function MUST be skipped as per the PAC SWI-RC instructions.
  4. The SWC function MUST be programmed in the correct order per the PAC SWI-RC radio function mapping order instructions.

Safety Notice

Video / movie playback will not operate while the vehicle is moving. This is a safety feature to prevent driver distraction. In-dash video / movie functions will only operate when vehicle is in Park and the parking brake is engaged. It is illegal in most jurisdictions for the driver to view video while the vehicle is in motion.

The SAFETY NOTICE is reminder to drive responsibly and safely while using your mobile phone device, or any APP's that are compatible with this unit.
It is highly recommended that your JENSEN CR271ML is installed by a professional installer or an authorized dealer.
This product is only for use in vehicles with 12VDC negative ground only.
To prevent damage or injury:

  • Make sure to ground the unit securely to the vehicle chassis ground.
  • Do not remove the top or bottom covers of the unit.
  • Do not install the unit in a spot exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat or the possibility of water splashing.
  • Do not subject the unit to excessive shock.
  • When replacing a fuse, only use a new one with the correct rating. Using a fuse with the wrong rating may cause the unit to malfunction.
  • To prevent short circuits when replacing a fuse, disconnect the wiring harness first.
  • Use only the provided hardware and wire harness.
  • If you experience problems during installation, consult your nearest JENSEN dealer.
  • If the unit malfunctions, reset the unit as described. If the problem still persists, consult your nearest JENSEN dealer or call tech assistance @ 1-888-921-4088.
  • To clean the monitor, wipe only with a dry silicone cloth or soft cloth. Do not use a stiff cloth, or solvents such as paint thinner and alcohol. They can scratch the surface of the panel and/or remove the printing.
  • When the temperature of the unit falls (as in winter), the liquid crystal inside the screen will become darker than usual. Normal brightness will return after the unit is in use for a while.
  • When extending the ignition, battery or ground wiring, make sure to use automotive-grade wiring with an a minimum AWG 16 or more to prevent voltage drops.
  • Do not touch the liquid crystal fluid if the LCD is damaged or broken. The liquid crystal fluid may be hazardous to your health or fatal. If the liquid crystal fluid from the LCD contacts your body or clothing, wash it off with soap immediately.
