Figure 3 Block Diagram LSI53C1020 SCSI Controller The PMCSCU320 uses a LSI53C1020 PCI-X -to-Ultra320 SCSI Controller which supports a 64-bit or 32-bit, 133, 66 or 33MHz PCI bus. The Ultra320 SCSI features implemented in the LSI53C1020 are: double transition (DT) clocking, packetised protocol, paced transfers, quick arbitrate and select (QAS), skew compensation, intersymbol interference (ISI) compensation, cyclic redundancy check (CRC), and domain validation technology.

Supports 32-bit or 64-bit data; • Supports 32-bit or 64-bit addressing through Dual Address Cycles (DACs); • Provides a theoretical 1066 Mbytes/s zero wait state transfer rate; • Complies with PCI Local Bus Specification Revision 2.2; Copyright  2006 BVM Ltd.

LSI53C1020 are transparent to the host device driver, operating system, and user. The Fusion-MPT architecture also saves the user significant development and maintenance effort because it is not necessary to alter or redevelop the device driver when a revision of the LSI53C1020 device or firmware occurs. LVDlink transceivers that support LVD SCSI and SE SCSI. SCSI Termination Active SCSI bus terminators are fitted on the PMCSCU320, which are able to terminate the SCSI bus in either low-voltage-differential (LVD) or single-ended (SE) mode depending on the mode detected.

The contents of the EEPROM are read by the LSI53C1020 on coming out of reset and are used to set up the control registers after reset, allowing the following to be set: •...

(two on the front panel and two on the spacers). 4. There is no voltage keying on the PMCSCU320, it will work in both +3.3V and +5V host carriers. 5. The PMCSCU320 can be used with a standard 68-way VHDCI SCSI cable which should be terminated with a suitable SCSI terminator - either single-ended (SE), low-voltage-differential (LVD) or automatic switching SE/LVD depending on the application - see section "6.1 Front Panel...

  • Page 20: Scsi Connection Details

SCSI Bus Widths and Speeds Up to 8 SCSI, Fast SCSI and Ultra SCSI devices (including the PMCSCU320) can be connected on a single-ended Ultra SCSI bus only if they are evenly spaced on a 1.5m Ultra2 SCSI cable (0.19m between devices).
  • Page 21: Scsi Bus Termination

SCSI devices connected on the ends of the SCSI bus must have their terminators active. All other SCSI devices on the bus must have their terminators removed or disabled. The PMCSCU320 is also on the SCSI bus, its termination is automatically enabled when it is connected to the end of the bus.

See the information referenced in "A.5 Am29LV040 FLASH EPROM (page 18)" for further details. Integrated RAID NVSRAM The PMCSCU320 is fitted with non-volatile static RAM (NVSRAM) which is used by the Fusion-MPT firmware to save the RAID configuration and status data.
