    (EGR system) in intake manifold can lead to a damage. To check operation of electronic throttle control it is necessary to use dedicated tester. To force throttle movement it is required to apply specific control signals. DTA-1 tester is designed for just such tasks.

    Engine Controller (ECU) is responsible for generation of required signals. To diagnose this kind of throttle an appropriate tester is needed, such as DTA-1. Air throttle in diesel engine is located on the intake manifold, before exhaust gas intake from EGR valve.

For exhaust recirculation to get desired effect it is needed to provide the necessary amount of exhaust gases. Exhaust can enter intake manifold if |EGR valve is open and exhaust pressure exceeds intake air pressure.

    Overcurrent indication (ALARM) 4. Tester application DTA-1 device enables throttle diagnosis and is especially suited for companies specialized in regeneration of throttles as well as workshops offering wide range of repairs. The device is designed for electronically controlled throttles. It allows to set the throttle in required position by sending appropriate control signals.

    TC (see Figure 5.1). This cable has different versions depending on connector type in throttle. For facilitation different cable versions are marked by color bands placed near DTA-1 connector. Table 6.1 specifies what kind of cable should be used with specific throttle.

    Connector appearance 7. Connecting DC motor To connect DC motor to DTA-1 tester use yellow TC cable. This cable is ended with two wires with universal terminals. Attach this terminal to DC motor terminals according to Table 7.1. Inverting polarity will change direction of rotation.

    DTA-1 tester user manual Input precision button – (coarse/fine) toggles on and off precise parameter adjustment. Input precision indicator – lights up when precise (fine) adjustment is made. After connecting the device to power source (12V) and switching it ON (Fig. 8.1) the device starts with its splash screen.

  • Page 15 DTA-1 tester user manual Position setpoint. DTA-1 will set throttle valve in this position. Value is expressed as a percentage of full range. When Manual control is chosen the user may change setpoint using input potentiometer. Allowable values depends on throttle type. Adjustment can be made in steps of 1.0 [%] or 0.1 [%].

  • Page 17 (see section 8.1). After diagnosing DC motor failure, it should be detached from throttle unit and tested by DTA-1 using DC motor test function. Note two characteristic parameters: current draw on maximum control value, minimum control value at which the motor starts to rotate.

    DTA-1 tester user manual The values in Table 8.2 were determined on the basis of numerous test conducted by DeltaTech Electronics company. Nevertheless these are only demonstrative values that can be useful while diagnosing air throttles. After pressing the back button, the device returns to test selection.

This is due to insufficient sealing between throttle body and the shaft moving the flap. This results in engine oil penetrating the controller and causing whole parts (circuit board, DC motor, position sensor) to submerge in oil.
