To engage drive, simply move and hold the drive
control lever against the control handle.
Your speed of travel is also controlled by the gear
selector. In position 1 the unit will travel at
approximately 0.7 metres per second m/sec. In
position 2 the unit will travel at approximately 1.2
m/sec.
To disengage either simply release the lever.
To mow, simply engage the blade followed by the
drive and let the mower travel forwards at its own
pace, keeping your feet clear of its body and cutters.
For the best results, mow in a straight line, tackling
the lawn in a series of overlapping strips.
If mowing long grass, start with the mower set to
the maximum cutting height then re-mow, several
times if necessary, gradually reducing the cutting height
at each pass until satisfied.
Empty the grass box at frequent intervals -
remembering to switch OFF the mower first. Simply
unhook it, empty it out then re-fit it.
Take your time and don't over do it. You are more
likely to have an accident if you are tired or rushing.
Watch your footing, especially on wet and/or sloping
ground. Mow across the face rather than up and down
the slope.
If the mower should strike a stone or something
similar, stop mowing at once. Switch OFF and
inspect for damage. If in doubt, contact your local HSS
Ground Care Depot for advice.
Finally, release the blade and drive controls then set the
throttle control in the STOP position. Wait for the
engine to stop, then close the fuel tap.
EQUIPMENT CARE
Never push the equipment beyond its design
limits. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease and speed, assume you have the wrong type of
equipment for the job. Contact your local HSS Ground
Care Depot for advice.
Keep the equipment clean - you will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
Regularly check the fuel level and top up as
necessary using unleaded petrol.
Regularly check the oil level - when the engine is cold

and on level ground. Withdraw the dipstick, wipe it

clean, then replace it, remove it a second time and verify
that the oil level is between the min and max lines, top
up as necessary.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
FINISHING OFF
Switch the engine OFF then the fuel and give the
unit a final clean up ready for return, to your local
HSS Ground Care Depot.
