GENERAL OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE
INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIAMOND PACIFIC LAPIDARY
SLAB SAWS
The DIAMOND PACIFIC Lapidary slab saws are used to make
accurate cross section cuts through large and heavy pieces of semi-
precious material, geological specimens, core samples and other non-
metallic material. They have been engineered and built to grip a hard
mass securely and to move it into a rotating diamond saw blade in a
straight line parallel with the plane of the blade.
Your saw meets requirements of the Federal Occupational Safety and
Health Act (OSHA) and those of California OSHA (Cal-OSHA).
The safety features are provided to protect the user. They must be
maintained in place when the saw is operable. The safety features should not be altered or by-
passed.
These features include:
A steel hood, with 1/4" plexiglass viewing window completely encloses the cutting process.
This hood is interlocked with the motor and
to open this hood while the saw is running will stop the motor and saw operation to protect the
user from the operation and spray of coolant.
The hood is provided with a bracket to maintain the hood open when setting-up. The safety pin
MUST
be inserted in the holes in this bracket when the hood is up, in order to prevent it from
accidentally dropping.
The electric motor is equipped with over-load protection and provided with manual reset.
The motor belt drive is provided with a steel guard to prevent accidental personnel contact.
This belt drive guard
The electrical wiring on the saw is grounded. When plugging in the cord to house power, be
sure you use a grounded receptacle.
PRONG ON THE MACHINE
and is recommended if operating the saw in a damp or wet area.
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the recommended coolant and for the diamond cutting
wheel are provided with your saw. These should be reviewed and all precautions listed should
be followed.
These features are provided to assure compliance with safety codes, to assure your safety and to
maximize the life of the saw.
MUST
be maintained in place when the saw is operable.
DO NOT USE ADAPTERS OR REMOVE THE GROUND
CORD. A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) may be added

STANDARD FEATURES Hood - Standard Models TR- 18, TR- 24, and TR-36 have metal hoods with a plastic window. Blade coolant deflector is adjustable. Arbor shafts are engineered for strength and rigidity, machine tuned for proper fit of bearings and blade. Blade flanges are machined steel to meet safety code requirements.
  • Page 3 To operate your slab saw, simply install and adjust the slab saw as described on the following pages and you are ready to begin cutting. INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENTS During Installation and Adjustments, including V belt tensioning and adjustment, blade installation and general cleaning, REMOVE THE POWER CORD FROM HOUSE POWER.
  • Page 4 An ample supply must be directed into the saw cut, enough to lubricate the rim and the workpiece and to flush out all debris. A commercial cutting oil such as DIAMOND PACIFIC ROC-OIL is recommended. We do not recommend the use of plain water when slabbing. If residue remains in the coolant/lubricant, cutting performance will be reduced.
  • Page 5: Automatic Shut-Off

Turn vise tightening wheel counterclockwise to tighten vise jaw against stone. Use wood wedges to help lock stone securely in vise. AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF The steel trip chain, if properly adjusted, will shut off the power upon completion of cut. To adjust chain for automatic shut-off, proceed with the following steps.
  • Page 6 POWERGLIDE HYDRAULIC FEED The Powerglide Hydraulic Feed on your Diamond Pacific slab saw allows for maintaining a steady pressure while cutting. Select workpiece, clamp in vise and adjust shut-off chain as described previously.
  • Page 7: Maintenance

Once the workpiece contacts the blade, allow the carriage to move forward very slowly (by adjusting the position of the control valve lever) until the blade has cut a groove in the workpiece so that there is no chance of blade deflection. Move the control valve to the “cut”...
  • Page 8 SLAB SAW Wipe track and roller bearings of all grit and sludge before every cut. Keep V-belt tensioned properly. Change coolant when dirty. Inspect vise blocks. (replace if necessary) Remove flat head screws. Remove hardwood blocks. Replace with appropriate blocks. Keep carriage roller bearings in contact with way bars.
  • Page 9 Sharpen Check V-belt tension. Check to see if pulleys are slipping on shaft. Check coolant. Check flange condition. If flanges, when placed together, do not lie perfectly flat, they need to be resurfaced or replaced. Be certain flanges are clean and free of debris. Check condition of arbor shaft surface.
