  • Page 3 Important Cautions for Safe Work ● NIKKARI Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as NIKKARI) cannot foresee all the risks in handling the hedge trimmer. Therefore, also give consideration to general safety measures not stated in this manual, powerhead manual to prevent accidents when handling the hedge trimmer.

    1. Safety 1.1 Warnings For appropriate use of the hedge trimmer, follow the instructions in this manual. Warning labels are attached to places where there are potential risks or in the periphery. The warning labels in this instruction manual are categorized depending on the degree of risk as shown in the table below. 1.1.1 Warning Description Signal words in this instruction manual are categorized as shown below.

Understand the meanings of the warning labels thoroughly and work in a safe environment without accident or failure. (b) Do not operate the hedge trimmer until you have a good understanding of the meanings of the warning labels.

    1.2 General Precautions 1.2.1 Overall Precautions When handling the hedge trimmer, follow the precautions of the powerhead manual in addition to the following precautions. Do not use the hedge trimmer when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. * You will be distracted or not be able to use the hedge trimmer appropriately, causing a serious accident.
  • Page 8 1.2.2 Precautions on Clothes Wear a hard hat when using or transporting the hedge trimmer. * It could cause injury to head. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when using the hedge trimmer. * Otherwise, injury may result. Wear a goggle when using the hedge trimmer. It is recommended to also use face shield (or face screen) together.
  • Page 9 Check the condition of the trimmer blade and mounting screws before/after cutting. * If it is used with cracks or looseness, the blade could chip off and the pieces of the blade could hit a person or attachment could fall. When there is any obstacle (wires, etc.) which cannot be removed near the branches to be cut, cut the branches while taking care so as not to allow the trimmer blade to get contact with such obstacle during cutting.
  • Page 10 When starting the hedge trimmer, make sure that the trimmer blade is not touching the ground or obstacles. * Otherwise, you could fall down and get severly injured due to contact with the trimmer blade. It could also cause the objects to scatter, resulting in injury such as sight loss. 1.2.5 Precautions for Operation Do not operate the hedge trimmer on insecure footings including a ladder, tree or any other insecure support.
  • Page 11 When cutting a hedge trimmer higher than the eye level, frequently check if there is any person, animal or obstacle in the hedge. * If the check is neglected, the hedge trimmer could get contact with a person or obstacle, resulting in an accident.
  • Page 12 1.2.7 Precautions for Troubleshooting When troubleshooting, stop the engine and then remove the attachment from the powerhead. * If the engine starts during the work, hands or fingers could be severed by the moving parts or trimmer blade. 1.2.8 Precautions for Transporting Do not transport the hedge trimmer by a bicycle and a motorbike. * Otherwise, the hedge trimmer could fall off, resulting in injury or damage of the hedge trimmer.
  • Page 13 1.2.9 Precautions for Storing When storing the attachment with the hook of the pipe cap attached to the pipe, etc., do not pull or swing the attachment. Or, attach it to the fixed bar having enough strength. * Otherwise, it will fall off, causing a serious injury. When storing the attachment, set the guard to the trimmer blade. * Otherwise, it could cause injury due to contact with the trimmer blade or serious injury due to contact with the attachment which is falling off or falling down.

    1.3 Safety Devices and Protective Guard 1.3.1 Safety Devices (Stop Devices) To stop the hedge trimmer in case of an accident or abnormality, use the stop device and stop the rotation of the blade. There are the throttle trigger and start/stop switch on the powerhead as stop devices. Refer to the powerhead manual for details.

    1.4 Protective Equipment When using the hedge trimmer for cutting, always wear the following protective equipment.     2.1 Name of Parts and Their Functions The hedge trimmer is a device with the attachment installed to the powerhead (separately sold).     3. Installation and Adjustment 3.1 Installation Method Before installing or removing, stop the engine. * If the engine starts during the work, hands or fingers could be severed by the moving parts or trimmer blade. When handling the trimmer blade, wear gloves. * If you touch the edge of the trimmer blade or tip of the sharp blade, it could cause injury to hands or fingers.
  • Page 20 3.1.2 Connecting Loosen the knob bolt [1] of powerhead connections. Align the boss (protrusion) [2] at the end of the pipe with the slit of the joint case [3], and insert it to the label [4] position. Make sure that the positioning knob [5] is lowered to the original position, and then tighten the knob bolt [1] of powerhead connections.

Lift the positioning knob [5], and turn When the positioning knob is lifted, it can be rotated both clockwise and counterclockwise by 90°. Pull out the shaft tube [6]. If the shaft tube is hard to remove, hold it so that the attachment is parallel to the pipe of the powerhead, and then pull out it.

    3.2 Adjustment of Cutter Bar Angle On this type of cutter bar, the angle relative to the cutter bar can be adjusted to 13 positions between -90° to +90° in case of SSHF-L series. Adjust as follows. Before this adjustment, stop the engine.

Operation Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when using the hedge trimmer. * Otherwise, injury may result. 4.1 Transporting method Do not transport the hedge trimmer by a bicycle and a motorbike. * Otherwise, the hedge trimmer could fall off, resulting in injury or damage of the hedge trimmer. Before transporting the hedge trimmer, stop the engine, and make the blade stopped.

    4.2 Pre-operation Check Make sure that the hedge trimmer is operated normally or there is not any part missing or cracking before starting the operation. Especially check the looseness of the connections, screws and nuts, and fuel leakage. * Otherwise, it will cause serious accident. Before operating the hedge trimmer, check the following.

    4.4 Description of Cutting Techniques The following describes the cutting techniques.  Vertical cut While cutting along the hedge, move the trimmer blade up and down in large arc.     4.6 Examples of Use Specific examples of how hedge trimmer is used are described as follows.  Example 1 (horizontal cut)  Example 2 (vertical cut) Use an angled cutter bar. Do not perform any maintenance or repair other than those described in the instruction manual. Request the sales agency. * Otherwise, an accident could happen.

    5.2 Maintenance of Trimmer Blade If the trimmer blade is excessively worn, bent or knicked, replace the trimmer blade assembly with the new one. * Otherwise, pieces of the trimmer blade broken during the work could scatter, causing serious injury. When handling the trimmer blade, wear gloves.

    6. Storing Store the grease in a place out of reach of children. Also, put them in a container so that the grease is not spilled and make them distinguished to understand contents. * When drinking them by mistake, the person will feel physically sick. When storing the attachment with the hook of the pipe cap attached to the pipe, etc., do not pull or swing the attachment.
