INTRODUCTION Overview Your new ViviCam 3915 delivers high quality, 2560 x 1920 resolution images using a 5.0 Megapixel CCD sensor. Using either the optical viewfinder or the color image LCD monitor, you can compose images and then examine them in detail. An auto-flash sensor automatically detects the shooting (lighting) conditions and determines whether the flash should be used.

PREPARING YOUR VIVICAM 3915 Installing the Batteries You can use 2 AA size batteries (either Ni-MH or Alkaline) to power your camera. NiMH rechargeable batteries offer improved performance and economy. Battery power is convenient for capturing images or recording video clips. 1.
Using an AC Power Adapter (Optional Accessory available from Vivitar Corporation) There’s another way to power your ViviCam 3915–using an AC power adapter. AC power is recommended for long periods of continuous use or for transferring images to your computer if not using freshly charged Ni-MH batteries.
Loading an SD Memory Card (Optional Accessory) Your camera comes with internal memory, allowing you to store images and video clips in the ViviCam 3915. However, you can expand the memory capacity by using an SD memory card. Optional SD memory cards provide removable, reusable storage for images and video clips.
Setting the Date and Time The Date/Time screen will be presented if/when: The ViviCam 3915 is turned on for the first time. The ViviCam 3915 is turned on after removing the batteries/AC power adapter for a long period of time. When the date and time setting screen appears, follow these steps to set the correct date and time.
Attaching the Camera Strap To prevent accidentally dropping your camera, always use the camera strap. Attach the camera strap as follows: 1. Thread the small loop of the strap through the strap eyelet on the camera. 2. Pull the large loop through the small loop until the strap is firmly secured.
BASIC FUNCTIONS Turning the Power On 1. Press and hold the POWER button for two seconds to turn on the camera. The LED indicator lights red while the camera is initialized. Open the lens cover Note: If lens cover is not opened while turning on the camera, a prompt will appear on the LCD monitor. Turning the Power Off Press the POWER button again to turn off the camera.
Using the LCD Monitor The LCD monitor can help you to compose an image while capturing images, replay recorded images/video clips, and adjust camera settings. The mode icons, text and numbers that are displayed on the LCD monitor may vary according to the current settings.
Using the Optical Viewfinder to Shoot Your camera is also equipped with an optical viewfinder to compose images. Capturing images by using the optical viewfinder will conserve battery power. The LCD monitor can help you accurately compose the pictures and examine all the details, but using it may also consume more battery power.
Digital Zoom Using digital zoom, images appear closer. Whereas digital zoom is a compelling feature, the more an image is enlarged (zoomed), the more pixilated (grainier) the image will appear. The digital zoom function is only available when you set the LCD monitor ON. 1.
Using the Flash The flash is designed to function automatically when lighting conditions warrant the use of flash. You can capture an image using a flash mode suitable to your circumstances. If you change the flash mode, the ViviCam 3915 will retain that setting even if the camera is turned off.

The table below will help to select the appropriate flash mode: Flash Mode Description Fill flash (on) The flash will always fire regardless of the lighting conditions. Select this mode for capturing images with high contrast (backlighting ) and deep shadows. Flash off The flash will not fire.
Self-Timer By using the [ ] self-timer you can get into the scene when capturing group shots. You can capture images with the self-timer in any scene mode (Auto/Sports/Night Scene/Portrait/Landscape/Back Light). Self-timer duration can be set to 10 seconds or 5 seconds. Self-timer mode appears cyclically as [10 s] [5 s] [Display Off].
Portrait-Focus Mode Use [ ] Portrait-Focus mode to capture close-ups of subjects such as flowers or insects. The effective range is between 2.5 and 5 feet. 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your ViviCam 3915. 2.
Setting Image Resolution and Quality Resolution and quality settings determine the pixel size (dimension), image file size, and compression ratio for your images. These settings affect the number of images that can be stored in memory, or on an SD memory card. As you get to know the ViviCam 3915, it is recommended that you try each quality and resolution setting to get an appreciation for the effects that these settings will have on your images.

Number of Recordable Images The frame counter indicates the approximate number of images that can be stored on the internal memory or the SD memory card at the ViviCam 3915’s image quality and size settings. The number of recordable images may vary depending on the recorded subject and the capacity of the memory card, or if there are files other than images, or when the recording is made while switching the picture quality/resolution.
SHOOTING-MODES Automatic Mode Using [ ] Automatic the majority of the settings are adjusted by the camera. Simply point at your subject and then shoot. 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your camera. 2.
Sports Mode For dynamic action choose the [ ] Sports mode. This feature allows you to capture moving subjects continuously. (16 images can be captured continuously in a burst over an interval of 1.6 sec. to 2 sec.). 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your camera. 2.
Night Scene Mode Capturing your subjects by using [ ] Night Scene mode helps to provide a natural balance between the main subject and the background. The people in an evening sky or night scene are illuminated with the flash while the background is captured at a slow shutter speed providing proper exposure for both.
Portrait Mode Capturing images by selecting [ ] Portrait mode helps you to compose portraits in which the main subject stands out against background details. 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your camera. 2.
Landscape Mode Capturing images by choosing [ ] Landscape mode helps you to capture vivid and expansive landscape images by enhancing the image’s color and saturation. IMAGE PLAYBACK In [ ] Playback mode you can view your images and video clips. You can even magnify (zoom in on) your images. Playback mode provides a thumbnail image display function that allows you to quickly search for the image that you want.
Playback Zoom While reviewing your images, you may enlarge a selected portion of an image. This magnification capability allows you to view fine details. 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your camera. 2. Press the MODE button twice to enter [ ] Playback mode.
Viewing up to Nine Images at a Time This function allows you to view nine thumbnail images on the LCD monitor simultaneously so that you can quickly scan for a particular image. 1. Open the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your camera. 2.

Step 3: Downloading Recorded Images and Video Clips When the camera is turned on and connected to your computer, it is considered to be a disk drive, just like a floppy disk or CD. You can download (transfer) images by copying them from the “removable disk” (“untitled” disk on a Macintosh) to your computer hard drive as described in the prior section.
