OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Time-base and signal frequencies are equal. Time-base frequency is 1/5 of signal frequency. Fig. 1 Relationship between signal and time base frequencies Position the waveform by adjusting the vertical position control (9) and horizontal position control (10) appropriately. If the waveform includes a D C component, it is shifted up or down depending on the polarity of the component.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS M E A S U R E M E N T B Y L I S S A J O U S ' F I G U R E S Frequency measurement Lissajous' figures are a widely used method for measurement of the frequency of a signal. T o make a frequency measurement using this method, proceed as follows: Set the S W E E P R A N G E selector switch (11) to the E X T position.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Measurement of phase difference A p p l y the t w o signals having the same frequency (for instance the R and L signals of a stereo signal) to H O R E X T . I N P U T (3) and V E R T I N P U T terminals (5) in the same manner as described irr (a). A straight line running from the upper left corner t o the lower right corner of the screen indicates both signals are in phase w i t h each other.
APPLICATIONS A P P L I C A T I O N S Frequency Response Measurement of an Audio Amplifier Connect the sine wave output of a signal generator to the input terminal of the audio amplifier under measurement. Connect the V E R T I N P U T (5) and ^=- (4) terminals of the oscilloscope across the speaker output terminals of the amplifier.

Gain having waving characteristic curve Measurements through the Direct Deflection T e r m i n a l s Although frequencies below 1.5 MHz can be measured through the internal amplifier,...
Page 18
APPLICATIONS T h e direct deflection terminals, however, require an input level of 2 5 Vp-p t o 100 V p - p because of their low sensitivity. Also, since the direct connection to the deflection plate puts the sensitivity control out of the circuit, adjustment must be made on the source side of the set-up.

APPLICATIONS Ideal keying waveform Waveform with cliks at keydown Waveform of soft tone Waveform with mal-regulation of power source Fig. 10 An example of Morse code envelopes Observation of S S B waveforms Make connections referring t o the Fig. 8. Connect the output of a two-tone generator (for example, 5 0 0 H z and 1500 H z ) to the microphone input jack of the S S B transmitter to observe modulation.
CAUTION ON HANDLING THE SCOPE C A U T I O N O N H A N D L I N G T H E S C O P E D o not operate this oscilloscope in a place where the set is exposed to direct sunlight. Otherwise, the unit may reach a high internal temperature w i t h resultant unstable operation a n d , in some cases, result in damaged components.
