Features of the 3B Series Actuators The KITZ 3B Series actuators are pneumatic actuators which are capable of controlling the opening of the valve in three positions, namely fully open, half open and fully closed positions. Three types of actuators, the double-action, the spring-return, and the spring-return with manual override are provided as standard equipment.

Document No.: KE-4031-02 Page: 9/34 10. Transportation and Storage ① Don't store actuators in corrosive atmospheres such as sulfur dioxide gas or chloric gas. Actuators may rust in the corrosive atmospheres. ② Overloading actuators and valves must be always prevented. Don't place any other objects on them, or don't step on them. ③ Actuators and valves are prodded with dust-free protectors. Don't remove these protectors until you are ready for mounting them on pipes. ④ Store actuators and valves in cool and dry. Corrosion-free environment to keep them and valves rust-free and prevent their malfunction, although surfaces are appropriately finished for primary protection. ⑤ For transportation handling or mounting of actuator-valve units, use ropes or straps as illustrated below. This is particularly important for handling Size 3 and larger actuators. ⑥ Handle the units with extreme care to prevent damage. This caution is important when actuators are equipped with solenoid valves and other accessories, or provided with copper tubes for air supply. ...

The standard operating pressure is 0.39 Mpa in the default setting while the operating pressure range of the 3B Series actuators is 0.39 to 0.69 MPa. If you specified the operating pressure when you placed the order, you need to operate the product at the specified pressure.
Document No.: KE-4031-02 Page: 16/34 15. Manual Operation Be sure to remove the lever handle and suchlike used for manual operation of Type 3B actuators from the shaft before starting automatic operation. If automatic operation is performed while a lever handle or suchlike remains mounted, it may fly off and cause a serious injury.
Adjustment before shipping from the factory (1) 3B Series actuators shipped from the company have been adjusted at the fully open, fully closed, and approx. 30° open positions. (2) If you adjust the opening by yourself after the product is delivered, follow the procedures given below.

Note 3 Note 3: Please contact the company if you require information on valves with a nominal diameter of 250 and 300 for class 16/20 of KITZ DJ Series. [Adjustment of adjuster bolt when fully open] (1) Supply air pressure of 0.39 MPaG to air port O at the open side to move the piston rod until it contacts the adjuster bolt at the cylinder side.

Document No.: KE-4031-02 Page: 19/34 Spring-return actuators (3BS-1 – 4)/Spring-return with manual operation equipment (3BSW-1 – 4) [Adjustment of stopper bolt at fully closed position] (1) Loosen the locknut <133A> without supplying operation air. (2) Measure the amount of overlap ℓ between the seat and ball in the case of a ball valve, and measure the difference between A and B in the case of a butterfly valve, and make adjustments to comply with the values in Table 1 and Table 2.

Document No.: KE-4031-02 Page: 20/34 [Adjustment of stopper bolt for the half-open position] When you adjust the half-open position of spring-return actuators (Type 3BS-1 – 4 and Type 3BSW-1 – 4), be sure to perform adjustments without supplying any operation air. If the adjuster bolt is loose while operation air is supplied, internal parts might become loose and come off.
(See “11. Mounting Valves on Pipe” in this manual.) ⑧ For Type 3BSW actuators, regularly apply grease to the threaded part of the spindle <123> to prevent it from seizing with the nut <49>. (KITZ standard: Shell Alvania EP2) ● ...
(KITZ standard: LOCTITE No. 262) When replacing an O-ring, use an appropriate O-ring by referring to “19. Replacement O-Rings for the 3B Series” in this manual. When mounting sealing parts, be careful not to scratch the surface of the sealing parts.
