    Loosen the four captive Phillips screws (1) from the bottom cover. The cover should lift up and create a gap near the captive screw that is second from the top left. Remove the four noncaptive Phillips M2.0 × 4.0 screws (2) from the bottom cover. Insert a tool (1) in the gap in the top seam to release the bottom cover, and then remove the cover (2) from the computer.

To reduce potential safety issues, use only the user-replaceable battery provided with the computer, a replacement battery provided by HP, or a compatible battery purchased from HP. IMPORTANT: Removing a battery that is the sole power source for the computer can cause loss of information.
