  • Page 2 INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the Basis Audio Bravo Turntable and Vector Tonearm. We are confident that you will come to view your decision to use a Basis turntable and tonearm as one of the most musically rewarding equipment choices in your audio experience.
  • Page 3 UNPACKING AND SETTING UP YOUR BRAVO TURNTABLE Unwrap the main turntable assembly carefully. The hole for the tonearm is located in the right rear corner. Place the platter on the bearing so the arrow on the platter lines up with the line on the bearing for the best speed stability.
  • Page 4 The motor can be placed before or after the tonearm is installed. The motor should be positioned about 3/16” (the width of the belt) away from the edge of the turntable. The motor can go on the left side or behind the turntable centered on the platter.
  • Page 5 The belt goes on the lower smaller pulley surface for 33 RPM. The upper larger pulley surface is for 45 RPM. Rotate the platter a few times by hand while guiding the belt on pulley with the other hand until the belt is centered, so it will not fall off or ride up on one of the pulley ridges. Press the button to turn the motor ON and OFF.
  • Page 6 Install the tonearm base cup assembly in the turntable. Gently place the post in the hole in the turntable and use the 3/32” hex key to lightly tighten the lock screw on the back of the turntable behind the tonearm mount area. The cueing mechanism and arm rest should point forward toward the front of the turntable and the top edge of the cup should be about level with the top surface of the platter (the height of the tonearm can be adjusted after the pivoting assembly is installed so the armtube is parallel to the top...
  • Page 7 Gently place the pivoting assembly onto the male pivot in the base assembly. The acrylic cable block with the wires has a Velcro strip to attach it to the rear edge of the turntable. Adjust the counterweight so that there is minimal tracking force. When adjusting the counterweight, pick the pivoting assembly up off of the pivot so that the pivot will not be damaged by the forces and movement naturally caused by adjusting the counterweight.
  • Page 8 Adjust cartridge overhang using the alignment template. Place the template over the spindle, and with VTA adjusted to a neutral setting, swing the tonearm over the template, adjusting both tonearm and template until the armtube is directly over the two parallel lines on the template.
  • Page 9 Recheck the overhang setting with the template. Adjust the cartridge until the stylus is at the cross, and the reflection of the cantilever is parallel to the line. A flashlight and magnifying glass or loupe will make this easier. Readjust the tracking force if you changed the overhang setting. The Vector setup DVD shows this process step by step and is also available to view on the Basis website at the bottom of the webpage: https://www.basisaudio.com/vector-4/...
  • Page 10 Azimuth is preset to zero and you may play the arm as set. Azimuth is adjusted by inserting the .050” hex key into the adjustment screw located on the right side of the pivot housing. (Do not loosen the nut or screw on the bottom of the pivot assembly.) Rotating the azimuth adjustment screw clockwise will raise the right side, counterclockwise will lower the right side when viewed from the front.
  • Page 11 Remove the pivoting assembly, carefully removing the acrylic cable block from the turntable, and place the pivoting assembly in a safe place. Always support the weight of the wires so they do not hang from the arm. Locate the small bottle filled with silicone fluid in the Vector box foam pack. Fill the cup of the tonearm base assembly until the silicone fluid is level and even with the bottom of the ball bearing located toward the bottom of the male pivot shaft.
  • Page 12 Loop the black anti-skate thread over the end of the rod to activate the anti-skate. Install a very small rubber o-ring in the groove near the end of the rod to keep the string on the rod. In case you lose one of these o-rings, extras are included with your tonearm. Anti-skate is adjusted by sliding the anti-skate weight up or down the shaft after loosening the lock screw with the .050”...
  • Page 13 If necessary, adjust the height of the cueing mechanism using the small .035” hex key supplied with the tonearm. When cued down on a record make sure the cue platform goes low enough so it does not contact the underside of the tonearm. When cued up the stylus will be approximately 3/16”...
