Tape doesn't move in recording or playback.
ә Power piug not properly plugged in.
• End of tape.
* No cassette tape loaded.
e Protective tab broken off.
Rec Standby button fails to function.
e Head is dirty.
е Head is magnetized.
• Tape transport section dirty.
Sounds becorne faint and sometimes inaudible.
е Tape is bad (stretched or deformed etc.)
e Recording tape is itself warped.
Recorded sound is warped.
Recorded sounds are distorted.
® Recording level is too high.
Tape is playing back, but no sound is heard.
* Faulty connection between deck and stereo amplifier.
Excessive noise.
e Head is dirty.
е Head is magnetized.
e Worn out or poor quality tape.
е Connection(s) improperly made. .
e Affected by external electrical noise.
Excessive wow (wavering of the sound).
* Dirty capstan, pinch roller, etc., or poor tape.
° Tape is unevenly wound.

* Load a cassette tape.
* Change to different tape, or cover the hole remaining after removal of tab
with cellophane tape.
* Clean head using cleaning tape.
* Demagnetize head using head demagnetizer.
e Change to different tape.
е Replace with a fresh tape.
* As warping of tape itself cannot be rectified, replace with another tape
and test.
» Check input level with meter and use lower rec level when recording.
• Rewire all connections from beginning.
* Clean head.
e Demagnetize head with head demagnetizer.
* Change to better tapo.
• Check input and output connections and reinsert properly.
* Move away from electrical appliances (TV, fluorescent light, electric
blanket, etc.)
e Clean capstan, pinch roller, or change to better tape.
* Rewind tape.
е Adjust rec level control.
e Change tape or cover protective hole with cellophane tape.
е Blank sections must be at least 4 seconds long.
